Report:
convinced herself she was getting a bit fat and that the walk from work would do her good, so i could have the car for the day. so loaded up and went out to conemara and tried a couple of beaches past spiddal they seemed like the ideal conditions sandy beach to the left , estuary and rocky kelpy bottom tried short and long cast with mack on no joy tried spinning over kelp and at the end of the esturay had a bite on a rubber eel but didn't take .after catching nothing not even a crab all bait can in untouched headed to another spot for a couple of shelter casts as soon as i had cast out the mack and tightened the line my rod started nodding decided to leave it for a while to the rod got a good rattle so launched out other rod and the same crack as soon as the line was tight the rod started nodding no waves and little wind decidded to real in felt like a fecking welly on the end of the line lost what i thought was red sea weed just when i had the line in baited up and casted out again. and as soon as i had tigtened the line the rod started nodding again . brought in the other rod with a what i thought was a pair of waders on the end till i seen DINNER (spider crab) a beauty of a spider crab <male>come out of the water landed 4 more lost more just at the pier but i was happy i had something for my pot only trouble was i d idn't have a pot big enough to cook him

Whoa, he is a big lad.

I'd be fairly familiar with the run of the mill edible crab, but which parts of the spider crab can you eat, it it just the claws and legs (sure I heard this somewhere), or can you eat the lot.

The Rock Crab - also known as "spider crab", (Cancer quanbumi) because of its spindly legs make it resemble a spider, is found living among rocks and in deep water. "Snow crab," (Chionoecetes opilio) "tanner," and "queen crab" are also known as spider crabs.
