Report: Had a day off from work and the girlfriends father rang me to see if i wanted to head away for the day as he heard there has been a load of mackeral being caught up around the Tullagh Bay direction. Took him up on the offer as i saw it as a chance to stock up the freezer a bit. Headed away at 10 and got to Tullagh bay at about 10.45. Made our way over to the rocks at the right hand side and when we got set up it was near impossible to fish because the wind was so strong but we stuck at it for a while. After an hour we decided to pack up as the tide had turned and there was a big swell picking up. So back to the car and had a bit of lunch where we decided to take a trip round and try a couple of rock marks at Culdaff. Along the way we stopped and dug some lug which we hoped would get us a few fish. Arrived at Bunagee pier and headed off to the rocks out behind the pier. We both set up 2 rods, one for the float and one for the bottom and got the baits in the water. After another 2 hours we still had nothing so we decided that enough was enough and packed the gear up. This is our second trip in a week and our second blank. Ah well theres always next time. It was good to get out anyway.

Aye Martin i'm trying to get out as much as possible. Things are just a bit quiet with the fish at the moment.

man don't loose heart, it's the same all over at the moment i went 5 blanks in a row and 450 miles travelled before i got into some fish in the last week alone it's just a tough month, but things will improve in the comming weeks just stick at it man

Aye things will definately pick up. I normally fish the rivers and lakes at this time of year to. We travelled to Wexford on the Easter weekend and blanked the 2 days aswell. I'm dying to get a bash at the rays in faughn so will head down a couple of evenings next week. Cheers for the comments lads.

It is a bit grim at the minute Ronan, I've been out to a rock mark in the kinegoo direction twice over the past couple of weeks and blanked both times. It has to pick up shortly?

BTW, do you normally get much of those rocks at the back of the pier? I fished there a few times last summer and caught loads of Pollack and Wrasse, but nothing of any real size?

Most of the fish caught behind the pier are on the small side. Last year i had a 6lb pollock of the end of the pier on the float and i've heard that there are really big conger to be caught but i don't really fish for them. The only reason we went there was because there was a bit more shelter from the wind. Would normally fish the beach if we were going to Culdaff.
