Tue Apr 14, 2009 10:00 pm

People: Daniel & myself (My brother & his son joined us later)

Duration: 17:00 - 20:00

Tide: Dropping

Weather: Nice

Bait: Rag

Rigs: 2 hook flappers

Results: Daniel - Rocking, Sea Scorpion & 2 Wrasse. Me - Nil.

Report: It was horrible! The Mackeral bashers have made their debut already!

I spent all evening sorting tangles, tying rigs & baiting hooks for Daniel, my brother & my nephew!

Then the Mackeral Bashers arrived and it all went to s**t after that! :-(

I can't wait til next time!

Mackerel bashers in April!!! Dear, dear. Saying that, a few blanks will put them off.

a blank wont put those lads off, not worried by state of tide, just a wee rod and a carryout is all they need  not saying they're all bad but some of them just dont care or realise how much effort some of us put into getting a good days fishing

I recognised a few of them from last year. All nice lads when they are in small numbers but when you get 10 or more of them together it's a circus. Last year I remember showing some of last night's muppets how to tie knots etc and gave them bait & "spare" leads.

At one point Daniel & his cousin both hooked into Wrasse at the same time. This sent our friends on the wall into a feeding frenzy and within seconds there were 6 sets of feathers landing within feet (no exaggeration) of where we were fishing! They didn't like it when I accidentally tangled with two of their lines and had to cut them both to get the mess sorted ;-)

Roll on the warmer weather when we can go down to the pier early on Sunday and have the place to ourselves.

Went down myself last night about 8.30

Got half way along the pier, and decided that the probable hassle form the little darlings would not be worth it, so turned round and came home :( :(
Maybe have another go tonight. Hopefully the rain and the forecast easterly wind will keep them away

Oh, and one of them was doing circuits of the lighthouse on a moped

I have to admit that I packed in a bit early.

I'm developing a temper in my old age (grumpy old man). The next tangle would have resulted in me (accidentally) pulling the rod out of the wee muppets' hands into the sea.

I only go to the pier because its safe & handy for Daniel. However on the down side I'm sure he's come across some vocabulary and extremist views which I hope he doesn't repeat to his granny! LOL!

I got in a good parting shot though. One of the lads was a Liverpool fan (only good thing about him!) and was studiously trying to avoid hearing the score so that he could watch it when he went home! Just as I was leaving I got a text from my wife to tell me it was 2-0! I took great delight in shouting it across the harbour to my brother! I hope the wee scally was listening! LOL

Vamper, I must have just missed you. I think I bumped into you one morning last year at the same venue.

The moped had just arrived as I was leaving.

Good luck if you try tonight.

My brother & nephew stayed on to about 9:00 and got a few coalies just before they left.

Daniel got one really good sized wrasse (probably touching the 1lb mark) :-)

Cheers nobuzz.

I remember talking to you last year

Its a sad state of affairs that you have to plan your fishing trips around bad weather just to avoid the little sods (or maybe that just me with a case of grumpy old man syndrome as well !)

and gave them bait & "spare" leads.

You wont be doing that again. Lead is nearly as expensive as Gold now
