GREYSTONES COVE, FRIDAY 10-04-09

Sat Apr 11, 2009 1:41 pm

People:ME

Duration:5-11pm

Tide:low at 6.30pm approx

Weather:some heavy showers, ok apart from that, mild

Bait:lug,mack,rag

Rigs:flappers, 1 hook clipped down,mini rig

Results:1 blenny, 2 flounder, 2 pouting, 5 whiting

Report:Arrived at the rocks beside the harbour at 5pm and was surprised to see that nobody was about so got set up at the lower part of the rock ledges. I had hoped for some mini species, wrasse blennys, sea scorpions etc but the tide was well out and the there wasnt any water where i normally get them so it wasnt looking too good   . I had checked out the solunar theory and this was supposed to be a good night for fishing so i was hopeful. Weather was ok and i was escaping most of the big showers.First couple of hours i didnt get a nibble but as the tide turned the rod tip started to twitch (or was it my imagination  ). As the tide started to come back in I lobbed a mini rig in close but no luck. I decided to downsize my hook (which was a size 4) as it kept catching in the kelp and found a tiny hook in the box,a fly hook , i'd say size 16. This was baited with a small piece of mack and was only in when i had a bite, reeled it in and landed a nice blenny. A few mins later i got a small flounder on the same hook.

As it was getting dark and i was getting lots of nibbles on the beachcaster i packed away the small rod at this stage . There was a heavy shower and this made the rocks very slippery so i'd advise anyone who decides to fish here to be xtra careful,i was wearing a floatation suit. A good bite on the beachcaster turned out to be a whiting and pouting double, i had been looking for a pouting at this mark for a while so i was well pleased. Next i landed another double, and couldnt believe it was another whiting and pouting double, whats the chances of that happening  . As the full moon rose in the sky i had another double, this time a whiting and flounder. I got another two whiting before i left , and would have stayed longer to check out this solunal theory thing only i was being collected by the wife. A good nights fishing by my standards and best of all , as i was there on my lonesome, there were no furry friends scampering about.

Nice one Dave on the minis. The night I fished there a few weeks ago there was a couple of lads beside me. When they packed up and left it got very quiet and then I remembered about your furry friends. Left soon after

Well done Dave. :P ..jaysus I'm jealous!! :x ..Greystones seems to love your rods.
Blanked :( at same rocks recently...trying close in for Wrasse.
As for lunar theory...yeah., I think I get it, I've found north Wicklow beaches fish
best on full moon with rishing tide, generally that is..fish still have to be there.

Pouting a good one to add to your repertoire....congrats!
Would love to get out but damned, persistent head cold keeping me in doors..at least
there's good footie on telly tonight!

Aidan

On South Beach Greystones Good Friday night 9pm till 2am

Me and two mates John the Rod and Garfish

Plenty of activity from when we arrived until high tide at 1am when things slackend off and weed became the catch of the day.

The bag was 1 Coalfish, 2 Flounder, 9 Dogfish and 17 Whiting. Most of the fish fell to Rag and Mack combo's some taking mussle and sandies my peelers didn't attract a single bite, but not too worry. Pleasant evening altogether rain held off thankfully as it was pouring as we arrived into Greystones.

Hello Aidan, was wondering when you'd come out of hibernation   . Havent had much luck there in daylight myself recently, the odd fish caught as the light fades ,but most in darkness. Tried for wrasse there myself during daylight , but have only caught blennys and scorpion fish, maybe its a bit early for wrasse but i've read reports from up north where theyve been caught :? . Tried that Dalkey mark also but no joy as yet  (blank  ). Was on the North beach last night,,,missed the footie but got lots of doggies, dabs, whiting and a coalie   Get well soon,
Dave
