Hi Booner, 8ft too short ? if not what about the 8ft spincast uglystick. I use the 7ft for spinning for pollock, but am picking up an 8ft on Friday for the season coming up. 7ft is spot on but I want a bit extra for giving the leadheads a bit of welly !

I would recommend the Daiwa Whisker spin. Most lengths available. The 10 ft for example has the biggest casting weight range I've ever seen - 10-60g. The 9ft is rated 7(?)-40g. The 9 and 10ft come in 2 or 4 pc. Light, responsive good quality. I have two anyway.
