If there's one thing that always gets in the way of fishing in Westport its drinking! So I didn't get up as early as planned and I had to go for dinner so I couldn't stay as long as I planned.
I drove into Westport town on Sat morning with the intention of checking out a shore thing, I had the blinkers on and did two laps of the quays and I couldn't see it. Thats was a bad sign! Went into Hewetsons and got the send eel, squid and rag, got mack in supervalue it was a bit iffey.
Not so much as a nibble so not much to tell really. Highlights included chasing an over friendly labrador around the pier to get back my mackerel. Crab fishing with my pocket fisherman which kept me quite entertained. A trio of englishmen came down and bombarded me with questions on all things angling, Then one donned a wetsuit and decided to swim out to my gear and see were there any fish about, I didnt know what to say/react to that. Two local lads came down at about 5, they were using lob worm and sand eel, They had nothing while I was there but no doubt they got the doggies in as soon as it got dark. There were two italian lads spinning with lead heads and shads on the back of the the pier they'd nothing either.
I guess the tide, weather and sun light was against me, Wasnt much weed about which was good, Just a nice day out in the fresh air! I see a good report there for Sunday evening so fair play to those in the know!
