People, my little nephew Alan and I.
Venue, Shannon estuary
Duration, 1 hour.
Bait, very sorry looking mackerel,
Weather, gale force wind’s topped of by freezing cold rain,
Result Thornback Ray and got whipped again,
When Alan seen the report from the mark I took K/C to get his first ray he was amazed at the result and asked if he might come along next time out.. So I was thinking about being whipped the last 2 times by the people I brought to my favourite marks I decided to load up the van thinking this is my chance to level out the score a little as he too never caught a ray before… in fact he has never fished for them,
The weather was so bad we decided to fish for an hour and sack it no matter what… nothing showed until the last few minutes but I was so happy to see his rod buckle over just as we started to pack up… he didn’t see it because the sand had gotten into his eyes and was having trouble keeping his eyes open so I waited for the second tug then guided him as he tightened the line and landed a nice 3lb.11oz Ray,
I got another consolation prize of this little fish as I reeled in to go home… can anyone tell me if this is another coalfish or another species for the list… this little fella had a greenish back with a hint of brown.. Very nice colour’s,
Alan did very well his first time out but I think I will be going it alone from now on... have a pain in my asp from being whipped,
