Report:With the longer days we decided a change of venue was on the cards, after reading one of keirans excellent reports we decided on the killala area.We were fishing by 11.30 with the usual set up, one rod each at distance and one closer in.Nither myself or jason had fished this mark before so we did not know what to expect  but a few fish would be nice, but things started off slow.Nothing happened for a few hours although we had both missed a bite each  then jason got a bite and soon a fine plump three bearded rockling was on the rocks, this was a very healthy fish with a big belly on him and jason was pleased to have missed the dreaded blank :D About a half hour later i got a knock on the rod close in and soon after a coalie of about 1lb was landed, within about 15 min we had landed a doggie each and jason had lost a fish that had given him a good scrap!think it was a pollock but could not swear on it!Then the fish of the day was caught by jason,it was the biggest goddam three bearded rockling we have ever seen,as we both had forgotten our scales and i had forgotten my camara  there are no pics and we dont know what it weighed  but it was 35cm long and was extremly fat! :D :D i said to jason that it might be a specimin but he did not want to kill it so it went back to fight another day :D :D the tide was in at this stage but bar another small coalie and two more rockling that was that.Because we were in the area we decided to have a look at another spot, just a look now mind! :D course it was such a fishy looking mark we had to have a cast or two! Worst mistake we ever made!! i lost three rigs in quick sucession and jason lost two, :evil:and not a bite between us! never, ever, fish a new mark without a recce at low tide first :roll:so we decided to call it quits at this stage, nice day out and fish caught !
p.s. when we got home i looked up the specimen weight for three bearded rockling and i think that jason deffinately had a specimen there!!

well done on getting some nice fish

it would be nice to get a specimen fish but its a shame that you would have to kill a fish to get the bit of paper

i often thought if the Irish Specimen Fish Committee had special seal able bags that you could send the weighting scale to them
most fisher men carry small pocket scales and cameras with them
why not take a video of the fish being weighed and a clear shot of the weight and then the scales being put in the bag and sealed
the scales and the video could be sent to them and then they could check the scales against their own

to me its a simple way of doing it it would be cheaper then posting a fish and no fish would be harmed
