People:Just Me :(

Duration: 1930-2230

Tide:Up to high

Weather:Slight offshore breeze

Bait:Mack Lug Squid

Rigs:2 hook flapper

Results:1 Codling, 1 Long Spined Sea Scorpian, 1 Shore Rockling

Report:

Making the most of the calm weather I decided to hit the Dee again. Got setup just after 1930 with high hopes of a good nights fishing. The last few trips have been hard with the high winds.

The night started of slow which was a bit of a superise. No fish for the first hour. Baits were coming back untouched at the Dee this is most uncommon !!

Blank saved by a nice small but perfectly formed Long spined sea scorpian caught out in the middle between the piers which is a first. :D Normally I would have caught them close to the edge of the pier walls anywhere else.

After abit more waiting I managed my biggest codling of the year at 20cm it is no record breaker but I was happy.

I was rebaiting one rod when I heard the other rod banging in the tripod I struck but had missed the bite !! . Shortly after a small diving bird surfaced not far from the bait. Not sure if it maybe went for the bait or just hit the line ?? :? It had followed the line in earlier in the night.

Last cast produced a nice rockling unfortunately no matter how many times i ran my finger across its beard the other two barbules didnt appear it was another Shorey not the Five beard I need for the Species hunt but nice all the same.

Nice going mate, good mix of fish all the same. Yea I found the wee long spined sea scorpions where a bit further out too. Caught one the other night in roughly the same area. Lots of rockling and sea scorpions about at the minute.

Al, the dogs are still evading me too but I am confident I will get one at sometime throughout the season. I think it was the same the last session we fished together fishing slowing down towards high water. :? :?

Dawsey its nice to see so many rockling about I really enjoy catching them not sure why but they really facinate me!! :)

the dee usually fishes best on the flood as the fish move in with the tide, i always thought by high water the fish had moved up to the beach and then move out again with the ebb. at high ater we used to catch lots of dogs up at the paddling pool near the sewer pipe but that was 30 years ago when the harbour produced lots of good fish for us. those were the days im starting to show my age now

I'm also looking for a dog to add to the mix :P Yea mate they are good craic on light gear, was out last week and they were biting left right and center, managed four or five decent rockling in a quick 1.5hrs blast.

Two short sessions at the Dee last week Al, a total of 4.5hrs, in that time I managed 9 rockling, 2 long spined sea scorpion and 1 pout. Hit it right on high tide, so not as productive as usual.

I've noticed it being quiet the past few weeks, maybe just the time of year, been getting similar catches though with rockling, sea scorpian and small codling. Still dogs about, had a nice chunky one on monday that put up a decent scrap, and a few about a fortnight ago, last week was just dire all round :| I need to start keeping records, but I think they where mostly caught at the start of the ebb.

Its really strange that it seems to be Rockling, Sea Scorpian and Codling and the odd dog about. Just before and just after C'mas there was Pouting, Poor cod, Pollock, Whiting as well where have thay all gone??. :? :?
