Carraroe, Galway 24.02.09

Tue Feb 24, 2009 10:56 pm

People: mga & myself

Duration:13:30-16:00

Tide: Rising

Weather: Fresh South Westerly

Bait: Mackerel, Squid,& Sandeel

Rigs: 2 hook paternoster, 1up 1down clipped, pennel pully

Results: zilch

Report: Met mga who hadn't been out since November for a few casts, we didn't give it too long about 2.5hrs. mga had a couple of good rattles but no hook ups. Wasn't going to bother putting up a report as there wasn't anything happening, but felt compelled to highlight the state of the mark which was an absolute disgrace. Myself and Vinny fished it two weeks ago and the mark was pristine looked like it hadn't been fished in quite awhile. This time there were plastic bait box containers, plastic wrappers from mackerel and herring, bundles of line everywhere, handtowels, empty squid boxes lots of used peeler plus wrappers, remnants from a fire and a big cardboard box that had the bait order in it....... I have the name of this angler as it was written on he side of the box with their bait in it.... all i can say is SHAME ON YOU!!

absolute disgrace that some anglers go to a mark and leave it in such a state, that is one of my favourite marks and i hate to hear such carrying's on.. i'm sure who ever they are wouldn't like me to go to there favourite mark and camp there and leave the place in such a state..

I'd nearly go as far as to say 'name and shame', but that wouldn't solve anything..

what i will say is "if the person/persons responsible for the mess are reading this, you should feel very ashamed of what you have done to the environment, i know that there is a family of otters locally to that mark as well as other mammals and birds that are precious to our coastlines, that could easily fall victim to your mess, so i hope you see fit to never do it again, and support the ISPCA with a donation" and yes i am serious...

Now salty.. how did you manage to not catch anything, you know there are pollock to be had in the depths just off the ledge..

Sounds like the same folks probably raped the place of small fish.

That mark made me fall in love with shore fishing in Ireland.

We should make it a point to keep a tighter eye on the place from time to time.....

unlucky with the blank conor. it's idiots leaving rubbish behind like that which gives the rest of us a bad name   i just hope it dose'nt end up like england where some councils got so fed up with angling rubbish being left behind that they banned fishing from some good marks

Place was a real mess alright

Think we might have picked up a few fish if we waited a little longer into the flooding tide, but other priorities beckoned...

Despite the blank, it was good to get the gear out again after too long a break :)

Roll on the weekend

We we're both just fishing one rod each fired out into the channel checking for Ray and didn't bother trying in close.... was checking the OSI maps have another mark very close by which looks promising into deep water which should be away from all the crap that seems to go with this mark these days
