North Connemara 15.02.09

Mon Feb 16, 2009 4:04 am

People: Me Fein

Duration: 15:00 - 23:30

Tide: HT @ 21:12

Weather: Dry and warm gentle SW wind

Bait: mackerel, squid, sandeel, wraps

Rigs: various

Results: Flounder, Poor Cod, Whiting, Dogs

Report: Headed out to Connemara to fish Lettergesh over the low was hoping for turbot none showed  but did manage 4 flounder biggest 28cm :) gave it till 17:30 but it was slow going all flounders came to wraps tipped with mack. Next up was a move to Killary to try for ray, picked up a poor cod numerous whiting and once the tide slackened there were dogs every cast including two doubles on the last cast with each rod. I missed a couple of wallops as the tide was filling strange sort of bites agressive but not in a doggie way, a quick bang rod tip rattled then nothing left it to develop then a pull like a ray followed by another quick rattle both times when i struck nothing there and it was sandeel and squid cocktails that were hit each time and they were fairly mangled, don't know what was going at them but it outwitted me  no ray around which was surprising but nice to be out.

Was thinking pouting alright but then it was very golden on the top side and lost a lot of scales which confused me as i haven't caught too many poor cod its belly was very bloated whatever he was gorging himself on tried to get the crow for a 2nd opinion but he was otherwise engaged

Was glad of the doggies up till then it was all whiting nice to see them around again in numbers, will have to go back armed with sandeel and see if all can be revealed on the mystery bite front :)

That's for sure the first double i was sure it was a ray as they stayed deep until close to the bank and must've been swimming in opposite directions as there was no pull just dead weight good size to some of them :)

Nice session. You can never go wrong with the doggies.
Alot of people hate them, granted they cant be eaten but they have saved many a blank session. I love catching them on a light rod.

I dont eat fish at all, i know its unusual and weird for a fisherman not to eat fish but id imagine they are rubbery to eat? Any good?
