Whiterock & Bray Harbour 4th February

Duration: 8pm – 11pm
Tide: Low tide was approx. 6.30pm
Weather: Quite calm & sheltered in Whiterock but quite windy and cold at Bray Harbour getting progressively windier and colder throughout the evening
Bait: frozen mack, squid, Sand eel, crab
Rigs: 3 hook flapper, 2 hook flapper (which became a 1 hook flapper after a valiant and hard fought battle with the lamp post at the end of the pier)
Results: 5 Whiting between us. One approx. 25 cm (caught & released)
Report: Went to Whiterock first to find surf relatively calm, little or no wind and very pleasant conditions for fishing. However having trekked all the way down to the beach, we discovered the entire beach was covered in thick heavy weed and for at least 20 feet from shore said weed was in clear view for the length of the beach. After the disastrous session on Sunday we decided to abandon as we didn't fancy battling through the weed. I had thought the steps back up were at their worst after a blank; they’re not. Re-negotiating them having not even fished at all is worse.
Instead we headed for Bray Harbour with the phrase ‘fishing from the car’ still fresh in our minds. The wind was considerably stronger here; Whiterock must have been quite sheltered. However it wasn’t so bad that we couldn’t fish. It was pretty quiet given that just 5 fish were caught, but it was great to get out and at least catch something.
One fish, Brian, didn’t survive the hook having swallowed too much of it, but he didn’t die in vain. He was used as bait and on the last cast I got a fairly decent bite on the line, picked it up and felt another sizeable bite, but it didn’t hold. Brought it in and Brian was gone.
Stephen tried for something other than whiting by using full crabs as bait but this garnered no success. He tried the mouth of the harbour towards the end but got snagged and lost the rig. Having re-loaded he decided to have one more shot but instead of fishing, picked a fight with the lamp post and lost a hook. It could have been worse, he's some tough cookie that lamp post.

Well done lads, nice to read the reports section and see that fish are being caught. I'm sick of all the doom and gloom and cant even get out fishing

you gotta love that lamp post,
My last nights fishing there my da followed myself ad my mate too the peir and as he setted up I noticed he was going grip leads and booms etc not his usaul stile and first cast wrapped around the lamp I p/ssed myself he lost everything and his brand new griper klinked away all night in the breeze which kept the joke going.
