13 fished and 10 out of 13 had fish.
In total there were 30 fish caught to size and about the same amount undersize ( less than 25cm ), There was a mix of cod, coalfish, whiting, flounder and 1 rockling.
1st Ken Hogan 5 fish, 2nd Kieran Kilcawley (Dr. Seafish/Prof. likes to sabotage me/His mono is not as good as my braid), 3rd Me 4 fish (would have had more but i was sabotaged by someone who shall remain nameless, but kept telling me it was "accidental", yet somehow quite surprisingly finished one place above me), 4th Colin Horgan 4 fish, 5th Cliff Gallogley 3fish, 6th James Kiniry 3 fish, 7th Clinton Rackman 3 fish, 8th Mick Maher 2 fish, 9th Keith Mcgrath 1 fish and 10th Barry O'Rourke.
Changing the venue probably increased the amount that we caught and made for more comfortable conditions, if we had fished Red Barn we would have had the wind in our faces and have to contend with fairly big waves. Over in the point we were fairly sheltered and there wasn't much chop in the water. The fishing didn't really pick up until around dusk. And when it did pick up, it was Kieran on the peg next to me, overjoyed and quite giddy about the fact that he was no longer blanking in 2009 - in retrospect, if i had waited 2 months to catch a fish i may have reacted in the same way, only in a more manly fashion, because Kierans voice went up a few octaves at the sight of his cod and then he did a little dance to celebrate ( well, he may have just stumbled on the shingle but from where i was standing it looked like a dance ).
Partly in boredom and partly in disgust at Kieran's display i went off to collect the pegs and found that there were only a couple of other fish caught, a cod of 39cm by Colin Horgan and a cod of 48cm by James Kiniry.
On my way back I discovered that a few more fish had been caught, Clinton had a couple of small flounder and Kieran had caught a flounder as well - I count myself lucky that i missed his celebration this time - and Ken had a coalie. Oh and i had a cod on the line as well.
As darkness fell completely fish started to turn up all along the beach and they were hungry, taking lug, crab, mackerel and sandeel. I was also grateful for the dark because i couldn't see Kierans celebrations as he caught more fish. The fishing for the rest of the night was fairly steady with the average size of the fish being caught about 35cm, unfortunately as the tide rose the small whiting started to show up and the last half hour of fishing wasn't as good.
Overall a good nights fishing and hopefully we will get some more southerly winds to bring the cod in for a while.
Also Kieran may deny the exuberance of his celebrations, but he should be proud because showed poise and rhythm
