Report:This was first senior comp from the shore, and the fish didn't oblige. in true east coast fashion a whiting massacre was well underway from the beginning. was drawn on peg 3 myself next heffo and young stevie. myself and heffo where going head to head from the first few casts with a good few whiting coming in. after an hour or so, dennis was spotted running up the beach begging for lug as he had already run out

it seemed himself and alby where well on their way to devastating us all, again. carl whelan was also getting a fair few.i myself was now struggling to find fish and after a fishless hour i was sure i was way off the pace, sure enough i was!!.young stevie next to me was given me a thorough kicking bringing a good few counting doubles from close range. i was left with a dilemma to either move in or stay out. i decided to do thee the later.
once darkness kicked in it was like a different comp.i began to claw my way back into it and started hitting good numbers, boycie was doing the same. only problem for me was that i was finding it hard to hit counters. plenty of whiting where more than obliging to my lug tipped with mack baits. it was now a grueling reel in, re cast, measure, re bait, re reel, circle. and some of the older lads like rodger de dodger where finding it hard to keep up. bang on 7 o'clock, i was under the assumption that our five hours fishing was over and packed up my rods and traces. looked over to my shoulder only to find lads still fishing, reminiscent of ferrypoint last year i had packed up an hour early, again! set up again i launched a last ditch effort to destroy arklows whiting population. by this point rodger had given up and armed with a 5/0 and some crab set after a rogue cod for the pools, and tea of course. ended up with a doggie for his efforts

dennis and carl both lost decent fish believed to be nodders in the surf. meanwhile i had, had a couple of fishless casts and it seemed again i was in trouble, boycie was looking like he was well and truly up there now with a good few counters to his name. lines up and it was clear who was the winner, with 53 fish was carl whelan, the battle for the other two top finished was still wide open.
