People: BANGOR, me and dawsey. WATERFOOT, me and jordan

Duration: BANGOR, 1pm-5pm. WATERFOOT, 4.30pm-8pm

Tide: low to high

Weather: sunny, cold but not too windy

Bait: lug mack squid

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results: BANGOR, me- 2 whiting and 1 shore rockling. dawsey blank :( . WATERFOOT, me-37 coalies, 7 pollack and 7 whiting. jordan- 14 coalies, 3 pollack and 1 whiting.

Report: dawsey and i set out on thursday morning to see if the fish were back to feeding during daylight hours at bangor again and to have a bash at the conger between the rocks. dawsey has to get his first one yet so i brought 2 boat rods on the off chance there might have been the odd strap lurking about. the rods cast out in front of us with the flapper rigs remained untouched until dusk when i got 2 wee whiting. i also lifted a shore rockling out of the sea defences as the tide flooded in at a spot that never fails  my conger gear never got a look in apart from the crabs who had a feast on my bait    dawseys rod was a different story but. it was only down 5 mins when that unmistakeable noise of a run could be heard    dawsey grabbed the rod, wound in the slack and struck. it was'nt a conger , but a doggie who attached himself to the rubby dubby bag tied to the weight     he let go of it when he broke the surface and dissappeared between the rocks. undaunted dawsey dropped it in the same spot again and within 5 minutes the doggie was back trying to rip the rubby dubby bag open again      he was a persistant wee fella who was too wise for the hook and cleared off once he had a feed of the rubby dubby

it was now friday and me and jordan were set for a flattie bashing session at waterfoot harbour. we arrived to an empty pier and got set up with jordan hopeing for a dab, plaice or turbot to cross off on the species list :D :D this was gonna be a near impossible task as a shoal of wee coalies were nailing his bait before the lead had hit the sea bed    he caught 5 of the wee guys before i had even baited up my first rod and this was to set the standard for the rest of the session. it was insane, we were pulling them up 3 at a time. they were all under 25cms so i packed away the beachcaster and broke out the wee spinning rod loaded with 6lb mainline to get a bit of sport out of them    then in the space of 40 mins the pier was packed with up to a dozen guys casting at range. jordan dissappeared to the car to warm his hands as they were constantly wet from unhooking fish after fish. i fished on just casting 30 foot out in front of me. it was crazy, i was getting hits as soon as the rig hit the water pulling in fish after fish. the lads either side of me were all commenting on how fast i was pulling them in      . needless to say this soon exhausted the bait supplies and by 8pm the 20 lug and 3 cut up mack we had for bait was used up and we headed for home. i think next time we'll hit the beach to try for flatties as you could'nt get through the wee pollack, coalies and whiting on the pier to get at em. but i'm not complaining it was great sport on light tackle, 2 wee coalies on a 40g cast weight telescopic spinning rod with a 3oz lead nearly doubled it over        roll on tomorrow so we can hit another co. down mark and see what suprises it throws up

do you think thats because they're ending up in chippys being sold as cod? heard this story from a couple of people up to now :? :?

i know, we love catching them. i only wished we encountered them more often. as i said before we have a real soft spot for them. i got talking to another angler on friday who told us ballylumford power station is coming down with them, just around the wee marina. so a trip out that way is gonna be a must next week :P :P :P :P

thanks don, when i realized it was gonna be a tiddlerfest i packed the beachcaster away and broke out the light gear. had to allow them a chance to give a good account of themselves :D :D . pulling wee 20cm fish out with a 8oz cast weight beachcaster would have been a bit overkill. would have been the equivelant of going quail shooting and your weapon of choice being a RPG
