arklow, north pier

Sat Jan 17, 2009 6:02 am

People:me and 3 rustys :)

Duration:10pm-1:30am,,,, more likely 2am :) too wet to look at the clock!

Tide:h.w. 1:21am (easytide.co.uk) accurate!

Weather:sw winds blowing but 50% shelter from pier wall.

Bait:lug,rag,mac,squid,sandeel,mussel,,,,

Rigs: allsorts, 3hkf, 2hkf, 2up1down,

Results:eh! whiting :D, millions, nearly every cast plus 1 dab to double andys species!

Report:collie and myself decided it was too long since we went south of greystones,
so without risking a nosebleed and the need to carry weapons (joke, our noses bled and we brought weapons  ) we headed to the north pier in an Tinbhear Mor.
a place i first fished over 30years ago, and always love to return.
we managed to group up 4 for the trip, one was rusty since our mayo trip last august!
and was he eager to get fishing!

as we parked and headed to the pier we passed a very daunting site,
the ressurected pere charles was beside us along with another vessel, its name i can't recall  .
it was emotional, many thoughts went through our minds, to be standing next to these vessels
and all that happened,
was very heavy.

we fished the rising tide and caught whiting all night with one extra species for andy.
by 12 the rain was like a watering can on our head and the wind helping to get our necks wet,
the pier wall was no longer sheltering us!
then just on high tide the rain stopped, the wind stopped,
not long after this i lost my trace to a snag
and my call for a wrap-up was agreed by all. i didn't fancy a new rig for another 15 minutes
knowing we had an hours drive home.
all in all we had quite a few keeper whiting and most releases were lip-hooked and returned.
no cod caught like the time we fished here a year ago!!! just a year!
then the walk back to the cars past the raised trawlers...
makes me wanna pick another mark but we would have been blown off the south beach tonight.
our thoughts are with the families and all that roam the seas.
a heavy start and finish to our session.

hi Diego, both piers will always produce a few fish or two and fishes well day or night.
down the south beach on the breakwaters or close by them gives good results.
sure ye only live not far from these marks
