People: me, basslover1 and Nik
Duration: 15:30-22:30
Tide: HW 18:30ish
Weather: some showers, but mainly mild especially in the evening
Bait: razor, squid, sandeel, mackerel
Rigs: flappers, pulleys
Results: me-nothing, Nik-nothing, Kevin - wait for it - a coalfish!
Report: headed out of work early after doing loads extra at the weekend, decided to hit the east cork beaches, but stopped off first at Ballycotton to try and break Kevin's blanking habit. We got a couple of bites and watched as a guy on the breakwater reeled in a number of pin whiting, but all we could manage to land was a crab.
While we were there, an Examiner photographer was there and he took our pics for the weather photo on the back page which we appear in today. I was deemed too ugly for the pic obviously and they went with my hands filleting a mackerel instead
We met a few other anglers down there as we were leaving had a chat and then headed off to Garryvoe around 6ish. Surprisingly small surf given the weather over the weekend. Very quiet. No discernible bites. Nik joined us later, in time for the momentous occasion when Kevin finally broke his blank on his new rod and caught himself a nice coalfish. Just managed to pass the blanking onto me

. A lot of people would have given up before he did, so I'd say he'll have no worries now, he'll be flying soon with that kind of enthusiasm.
The weed moved in about 3-4 hours after high so we gave it up and went home.
