county antrim beach 21 hour session 29th+30th dec 08

People: me and mark

Duration: 2pm - 11am

Tide: all states

Weather: 5mph S.E. moderate swell and cold

Bait: squid and mack

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results: ME- 5 coalfish, 1 turbot, 1 plaice and 1 flounder. MARK- 9 coalfish, 1 lesser spotted dogfish and a sea trout




Report: we set off up the coast back to the mark we got the bass at last time in the hope that mabey lightning could strike twice . so with 2 days cleared for nothing but fishing we arrived and set up in anticipation of another suprise session. i did'nt hold much hope of catching anything during daylight hours, but was sure that once darkness fell we might hook into some fish. the first 6 hours were tough going with not even a single bite. all the baits kept coming back untouched. so it was out with the frying pan and bacon baps and hot dogs all round .the first fish fell to mark around 8pm on squid bait. a little coalie around the 20cm size, quickly followed by another. happy days, the blank was passed us then it was my turn to get in on the action landing a couple of small coalies taking us up to 2am. around 3am mark got a good run on his big rod and whatever it was on the end of the hook tore off 30 yards to the left. as he reeled in we were both looking at each other filled with the hope that it might be a small bass . but no, it was a pretty respectable doggie just over 2 1/2lbs. the surf must have livened him up as all the dogs i've got in the past were pretty sluggish, but this wee guy gave a real good account of himself. we reeled in all the rods and re-baited and cast the 4 of them back out with a renewed sense of hope . it was'nt long before all the rods were showing bites and each rod produced a fish within the hour . mark got a couple more coalies and i got a small turbot and plaice. both of which were under 20cm, but i was'nt complaining .and a new species to boot, my first ever plaice. by now it was heading to first light and my hopes were fadeing as day began to break. but out of the corner of my eye i saw mark storming across the beach like a thing possessed, lift his small rod and strike i was watching my own 2 rods and did'nt see his get a cracking thump . he reeled in and i saw a flash of silver break the surface, and to both of our surprise he landed a big sea trout which had taken the top hook baited with squid .not a bass, but just as much of a prize for our determination . as we stood watching it swim back after he unhooked it i noticed my own rod was getting a knock. so i ran over and landed my biggest fish of the session, a nice flounder. nothing compared to marks sea trout, but i'm easy pleased . this gave us some more hope of more fish and we held on until 11am. but by now we were both exhausted and decided to wrap it up and head for home. we did'nt get lots of fish, but a new species each more than made up for it . not a bad way to end the year.

it was between 7.30am -8am, just as the first light was breaking through the clouds.

Great way to end the year, thats some time fishing.

no mate, the doggie pics juiced the last of the power in the batteries and it shut down. but when mark landed the sea trout he was determined to get at least 1 pic so stood rubbing the batteries between his hands like a thing demented for a couple of minutes. he popped them back into the camera and got 2 pics before it shut down again. never seen that trick before, but it worked. i'll have to bring extra batteries with us to anfield at the end of the season so it dose'nt happen there. have to get lots of pics of stevie g with the silverware

thanks, it's the longest session i've been out on so far. but i was wasted when i got home and slept right through. i did'nt feel right again until new years eve night

the silverware from the trophy or just from the bars in his cell when he gets banged up???

A pal of mine knows Steve personally, and without prejudicing the case, its a load of old tosh !!!!

It will all come out in the wash over the next few weeks you'll see, and Stevie will be free to lift that trophy come May

ha ha, i knew that'd get ye're attention. hopefully he'll be liftin that trophy in may, been a long time comin. he didnt seem too worried about it today.
