Rigs: flappers

b]Results[/b]: W.P.B. blank   Waterfoot, ME: 5 flounder, 5 coalies, 1 pollock and 6 whiting. JORDAN: 2 flounder, 4 coalies, 8 whiting and 1 codling

Report: we had planned to get jordan a turbot today. so we headed up to white park bay where me and ronald hit into a load of them the other week. the alarm was set for 5.30am so we could be set up on the beach and be fishing for first light. and just to prove that even the best laid plans can be scuppered we arrived to see massive waves crashing in from over 200 yards off shore        when me and ronald were here last time it was really calm and to be honest i was'nt holding much hope on this trip     . but undeterred we trooped down the hill and set up as dawn began to break. the surf was pretty serious and just swept our rigs back up the beach 60 yards to our left within 5 mins of each cast     this resulted in multiple tangles and the worms being ripped off the hooks by the surf long before any fish could find them. even 8oz gripper leads were no match for the waves. the only way i could see to avoid this was to cast beyond the first breaking wave, and seeing as that was 150 yards off shore it was'nt gonna happen   i even tried wrapping rubber bands around the gripper wire so that they would'nt spring free and hopefully bed into the sand. but they just washed up on shore unsprung. then to make matters worse jordan wrapped a rig around my left leg and 2 hooks punctured my waders and they began to fill with water      so with no fish, multiple tangeled rigs and a waterlogged left leg it was a case of mission aborted.
we headed into ballycastle for a cuppa at my friends house and to dry my soggy left leg out     , then headed to waterfoot so as to beat the dreaded blank. we fished our first comp there on saturday which was great with me getting 7th place and jordan getting 3rd. as we were getting set up on the beach sjw from the site came over and introduced himself as he recognised us from our posts. always good to put a face to a name and meet another angler from the site. the beach treated us well with the usual sellection of flounder, coalies and pin whiting. jordan even managed a wee codling, which provided a small concellation. but he still wants a turbot before the end of the year    not the session we set out for, but it's still better than blanking

Very good lads. Most of all delighted to see the young anglers out and about on the beaches. Keep at it and maybe plan a trip to the south east for more/bigger bass in the summer!! 8)
