Greystones 30-November-2008

Sun Nov 30, 2008 4:12 pm

People: Me
Duration:7:30 am -11:00 am
Tide: turning, rising (http://www.irishtimes.com/weather/tides.html)
Weather: very cold, bright, water calm
Bait: rag, mack, squid
Results: Zilch

Fished the rocks off greystones. A few nibbles from what were clearly tiny fish (couldn't even hook them on number 2's whereas miniwhiting fall to 1/0). First blank in three years, so it will be at least another three before I revisit this location.

Sorry to hear you blanked  , high tide was at 12.30, so i would have stuck it out a while longer if i was you ( i know its freezing out there   ). Dont give up on it too easily, took me a while , and lots of help and advice from guys i met out there and on here. Theres lots of bass reports on this site but i've only got 5 this year (and not in the first 10 mins cortaz   ) ,glad to get them, and 3 have been from the rocks at Greystones during the day I've found it a decent mark in that it can throw up a few different species to keep you interested ,,,seen a few coalies 35-40cms also,,whereabouts on the rocks were you fishing. I'd be happy enough with 1 blank every 3 years  . I've also fished other marks which have a better reputation,,, ended up with pin whiting,,,, and wished i was back at greystones :? :?

I had a couple of casts there myself yesterday and it was the same story, lots of little knocks on the rod but nothing but chewed baits to show for it. I tried the same thing as yourself and used smaller hooks and smaller baits but still had no luck. In the end it was the little rod I had dropped in at the edge for mini species that saved me from blanking with a little Sea Scorpion.

location: was fishing the rocks nearer to the station than to the construction if you know what i mean. don't know if that had anything to do with it.

I'll try closer to that end next time. I may also have been overdoing the casts (120 metres+). I found it hard going working the rocks to be honest, baiting up, tensioning clips, etc. No way I could manage two rods.

fished there today. brutal. small dabs and whiting and not many. left before the pin invasion... so on the fishing front putting your hands in the freezer would have been more enjoyable! :(

My first few trips to Greystones were a wash out but the last few were good to me. Best spot so far was at night near the car park where the flood lights shine on the beach.
