People:myself (silvaless), shampoo and Dr Brian (star of the Dr Brian show)

Duration: 6:30-10:30

Tide:couldn't really tell

Weather:no wind but feckin freezing

Bait:many

Rigs: flappers

Results: whiting, coalies, dabs, pouting, codling, rockling, dogfish

Report: after being in the library all week studying for exams i had to get out, so left ucd with Brian around four and got the gear sorted and picked some bait off boycie on the way, met mark at the mark about half six, and got fishing, we had a steady stream of fish the whole night, consisting of of mainly whiting, i had a big bait on the go the whole time hoping for a codling but it was not to be bar a micro specimen, the whities got to it every cast and shredded it to bits. had a nice dab of 29cm in the suds, thought he was much smaller till i got home and measured it, needless to say it now in the fridge awaiting the oven. must say it was freezing

must admit - talk of excellent fishing from cortaz moon phase theory had my hopes up

was hoping for a non whiting death seance but..........as ever they turned up in their suicide droves

had a couple of rockling to break up the whiting orgy - but that was it - the two lads were getting the other species

my motivation for this sort of fishing is diminishing all the time - and theres a good dose of this winter left

thanks to eric for the new reel seat - i gave him a plastic fork in return

also another great trick - when its baltic fishing - pour some of your tea from your flask on your wellies to de numb your toes!

as i always tell my patients - shut the hole in your head - its stops you eating, turn off the telly and go for a walk - NEXT!

Highlight for me was bringing in what I thought was a treble, 2 whiting, 1 dog, as I was unhooking the 2 whiting, the dog dropped off the hook, revealing a 3rd whiting, 4 fish, 3 hooks 8) . It felt like the dog had hit the whiting in the suds, there didnt seem enough weight on the rig for one of the fish to be a doggie......I originally thought I'd snagged a bit of weed in the surf :?

Shows what a poor night it was if that was my highlight huh

Like eric says, the feet got a bit cold towards the end of the session (even with 6 pairs of socks on), frost on the roof of the car when we finished confirmed just how cold it had been.

Nice dab by the way that eric got :D

Well done lads at least your getting numbers not a bad complaint :) Invest in a pair of insulated wellies they're the business and cheap as chips one pair of socks on last night and it was like being beside the fire at home.......

apart from the hail sea spary and gale force wind that is :)

The only thing about the whiting is that I have set the aim of catching one 30cm. I think my whiting count is over 50 now in four sessions (my bro has the stats).

Anyway on Tuesday I came pretty close in Wicklow while letting off some steam!

Close but still a little shy of my challenge.

I think that if we keep feeding them for another three weeks they might grow over 30cm. By the way it's the same fish. He gets about a bit.
