greystones 26 nov 08 8pm-11pm

had a ton of work stressing me out so........ i headed to greystones tonight :)
been reading about everyone fishing on here so i reckoned yeah, me fishing tonight, instead of reading reports.
anyway, got to greystones for 8pm, highwater about 10:30pm (easytide)
fished opposite driving range, barely fitted through the gap in the gate!!!!!
bait, rag, squid, refrozen mac, sandeel and mussel.
knocks all night, second rod only hit the water by 9 due to busy first rod. and coffee!
i fished 2 rig flappers on the beachcaster at all distances and a running ledger
on the spinning rod same distances.
got bites on all coctails all night, reduced hook size on running ledger which increased results.
both big and small will take smaller hooks.
first fish of the night looked like a very small bass but when i rushed to release it i realised it was a herring! what a surprise, first rod hooked herring in over 30 years fishing! this took away my disapointment of it not being a bass, as small as it was. also it's bait for my next trip :L:L
anyway this was followed by a small flounder and dab and countless whiting all night.
no show on the regular dogfish or hopeful bigsize keepers except for one big take when the spinning rod wizzed out and as i struck i loosened the drag instead of tightening it! well say no more it was gone, well we all had one of those
headed off after the local football team turned their very helpful floodlights out :( thanks guys for all the light you bring.
there was one "light" closer to the harbour end of the beach that fished on when i left.
great to get out,
thomas

Sounds like you had a busy few hours well done and I'm sure it helped with the stress.
If you drive past the driving range entrance and go to the end of the driving range you can walk down a path by the river and fish where it enters the sea used to be a good spot years ago. :?:

Was the gate locked? I never saw it locked, I usually open it and close it when I'm on the other side.
Nice session.

yup! a great big bolt on the base of the gate! a large person wouldn't squeeze through the gap.
i reckon people were leaving it open....
