noth Kerry beach, 16-nov-2008

People:me

Duration:11.15am until 3.15pm

Tide:

Weather:cloudy with misty rain. sheltered from the SW wind

Bait: sand eel, refrozen mackerel and black wrap

Rigs:pulley 2/0, wich bone puley size 2s, two hooks golds 1/0s, three hook glods sizes 2s

Results: 2 thornback ray 4.5lb and 5.5lb, gunard around a 1lb, 5 dabs to 25cm, 1 dog, around 10 whiting with the biggest 27cm but pleny of pin

Report: Had the larger thornback on the first cast to sand eel on the wishbone. The same rig and bait produced the next ray an hour later. Fish on every cast for the first hour and a half with the tide raging. I took the refrozen mackerel out by mistake which probably lost me a few whiting but no harm. The bait of the day was sand eel but I ran out half way through. On the flood it was poor with a slack tide run and crabs and whites striping baits but still managed fish with the highlight being the biggest gunard I've ever landed.

Well done Donagh,i'd love to catch a decent thornie like those, and well done on the gurnard, i saw a guy catch a big one a few weeks ago, but he didnt land it,it must have been a couple of pounds, a lovely fish.
