Report: I picked an excellent looking mark off the OSI website and decided to give it a shot. But looking at the OSI aerial photos it looked as if it would only be readily accessible when the tide was low. I got there at about 3.00 pm but thought I should check it out first so I left the gear in the car - there was a bit of a scramble over boulders along the shore but found there was a nice little beach there and plenty of room to move back at high tide as I would be cut off close to high tide. As it was very calm there was just a very weak surf - so probably not ideal but it looked a excellent mark so I thought I would give it a go anyway. I went back to the car, decided it would be better to travel light so took a couple of rods, the rod stand and four 5 oz gripper weights. Then as I was setting up I realized I left my lamps in the car

So had to make the journey again for the third time - it was about 4.15 before the first line hit the water.
I had just finished setting up the second rod when there was a knock on the first - a dogfish on a 3/0 pennel baited with rag/razor.
So I thought that was a good start - however, it went quite after that - giving me time to admire a nice sunset.
After dark at about 6.30 pm the dogfish onslought commenced. In the space of an hour up to high tide they were non-stop. I experimented a bit with the second rod - using a variety of baits on the two hook flapper that kept the dogfish off - mussel, clam, prawn but there was nothing else biting. I tried casting in short, moderate distance and further out but the only thing I could catch were dogfish. Most of them were putting up surprisingly strong fights - there was only one that came in fairly passively. Each time I was thinking that maybe this one was a bass, but it wasn't too be.
Eventually I got to nine dogfish - the tide was starting to drop at this stage but I thought it would be nice to make it to ten. So I retrieved the second rod and tipped the mussel bait with a mackerel strip. Cast out, and then took in the first rod and rigged up the pennel with sandeel which I have always found to be irresistable to dogfish - but before I could cast it out there was a knock on the other rod - the tenth dogfish
I then cast out the rod with the sandeel and it wasn't long before there was a bite - the eleventh dogfish.
The tide had dropped sufficiently at this stage for me to get back out - although a bit trickier in the dark. I need a better lamp.
That was the most dogfish I ever caught in one session. But good sport as they did put up a good struggle. Definitely a mark with good potential if there was a better surf so one I will certainly be returning too.
