People:me

Duration:9am-4pm

Tide:high at 12-18pm

Weather:dd beautiful mild bright day

Bait:rag, squid,mussel and 2 lug
dd
Rigs:flappers and mini rigs

Results:3 whiting, 1 small bass, 3 pollock,1 coalie, 2 plaice, 1 dab, 2 flounder,2 blennys,

Report: Decided to hit greystones early and was able to pick my spot when i arrived as there was nobody elae there   . Got set up with 2 rods, one at moderate distance ,about 80 yds out and the other rod in close at the base of the rocks with a mini rig, light line and 1 small hook. Weather was great and very mild but i took no chances and had my hi vis yellow waterproof trousers, which are particularly good at showing off guts and bloodstains etc :? . First cast and i had a small whiting, followed by another on the distance rod. I wasnt getting any bites in close, which was unusual . I had some wrasse here last week but i guess its getting too late in the year now. With no bites in close, i cast out a bit further with the small rod, about 20 yds, and when reeling in a few mins later i got a good knock which turned out to be a small bass    who took mussel, tipped with a squid tenticle( nearly wrote testicle  ) . He was my 4th bass this year and smallest but he gave me the best scrap believe it or not   ,,,tearing around like a mad thing on the light line  . I was delighted and it was great to see him go back ok. Next up was a 20 cm coalie(i think  )on the distance rod and he gave a good account of himself also. After this i had 3 hermit crabs in a row, the last one i used as bait to no account  .I was very surprised that there werent more people fishing . A couple more whiting and pollock followed all at distance, then the biggest pollock, at a chunky 32cms on the small rod in close. Dont know what i'll do when that rod finally falls apart, its on its last legs at the minute, but its given me my best fish this year. I bought a rod to replace it and broke it first time out and had to go back to it :) . Some guys arrived and i changed direction to give them some room and was rewarded with a nice dab 22cms, and 2 plaice 28cms and 24cms. In close i picked up a blenny ,the guys asked could you eat it   Not the prettiest fish in the sea but i liked him  . Thought i came across small blennys while i was digging ragworms in Sutton, tiny little fish under the mud, maybe someone could confirm if theyre the same fish :?: . Got another blenny in close and then pulled in a rig i lost earlier which had a whiting attached to it, theres luck  . Was running out of bait at this stage and used bits of cast off tails and testicles, oops !!, tenticles, and my last catch was a double of a flounder and a whiting   . I packed up then and headed home to watch ireland get hammered by the all blacks, but after such a good day fishing it didnt bother me too much (sorry  ).

Nice fishing Dave, good selection of fish there, and yep its a coalie....they do give a great bite and good scrap for their size.

Entertaining report, as usual

I've seen butter fish, flounder, blennies and a few other species I couldnt catch with my bare hands  in the pools around the mussel beds on Sutton when I have been digging rag.

Well done again Dave another nice session there. You seem to have the knack for different species every time now!!

Would you mind if I went collecting worms with you some time? I have never collected my own and I'm sick of buying them and then you discover their not the best? I'm in Marino close enough to Sutton. I was out in Dollymount on Tuesday running the legs off my little lass and saw some people collecting then. I thought it best not to go looking for worms with a two year old though!

Nice haul there Eyes.

Just back from the same mark meself.
2 hr session = 2 whiting and a coalie. Could have been better but for the lack of bait. Manky mack and a bag of €8 tescos finest, canadian peeled and cooked prawn  . Expensive coalie
