dublin harbour - 14/11/08

Fri Nov 14, 2008 4:23 pm

People:myself and shamoo

Duration:20.00-24.00

Tide: high 23.00

Weather: windy sw no rain

Bait: mack, rag

Rigs:3 hook flappers, single pat

Results: between the crabs, small whiting, 1 dab

Report: set up not expecting too much and generally thats what you get - plague of crabs with the odd whiting and some treble shots

after about 2 hours mark called it a flat bite and sure enough a dab showed - thought the fishing might be changing but no - even the whiting went tired

definitely more fish at 50-60 than at a few metres out - nothing on small 6s in close

one of the whiting had the belly taken out of him - was this a swimmer crab or a bass - was on the top hook of a flapper!

still the boats coming and going were keeping our attentions as well as all the cars coming and going from the car park - some back and forth 3 times

Last time I let Brian suggest a mark

DOGGERS PARADISE..........the're my thoughts :!: (and I dont mean walking the dog types  , although there was plenty of dog shite around the place ).

Thats what springs to mind anyhow, what with all them cars coming and going, in 4 hours we must have seen the same 5 or 6 cars pulling in over and over again

For all you locals, Brian forgot to mention....we fished out of the furthest car park up the pier into the port itself.

As Brian said, there seemed to be more fish from 40 yards outwards, I tried a mack head on a pennel rig in close (trying for a stray bass or conger)...if nothing more it kept the resident crabs busy for a while, and had a 3 hook flapper out at a variety of distances, but 50 yards or so proved most productive.

I estimate to have caught around 30 fish in total myself, but after the first 10 whiting there was little point in keeping count

In desperation to catch something different I even tried a couple of casts out the otherside of the pier towards Booterstown....but nothing more than more poolbeg crabs :(

I would say bring on the weekend but i'm not gonna get chance to get out :x :x

Lads were the cars safe enough down there? I heard its not the best place to leave your car if your going off fishing?
