South beach Arklow 10/11/08

People: Me

Duration: 16.30 to 20.00

Tide: High at 18.30 (I think)

Weather: Cold on the hands after baiting because the wind was blowing a bit. Some nice Moon light.

Bait: Mack and Squid

Rigs: Two hook flapper.

Results: 20+ Whiting, 4 Dogs, Nice Coalie.

I picked up some bait on the way home from work, they only had frozen so I got some Mackerel and Squid. I set up on the beach at my usual spot. It wasn't long before I had to move as the waves were getting a bit to close and I hate being to close to the rocks because the rats like to come out and play around your gear.
I was into fish nearly every cast, mainly pin Whiting so I casted out a bit further. I got a few Doggies and some more Whiting some were a decent size. Baiting and removing fish was getting very painfull on the wet hands because of the cold wind. Towards the end of the session I hooked a really nice fish, from reading here it looked like a Bass bite, there was two big taps on the rod and then there was slack. I was reeling in and it was fighting good then it came off  Anyone any ideas?
Right at the very end, maybe second last cast I got a nice Coalie. Most most the fish were taken on Mackerel, never fails great bait.

Nice fishing. I find at this time of year Mack and squid are as good a bait as any. I have also started using lugworm which is getting plenty of interest too.

Its hard to tell what the mystery fish could have been. Is there any big cod beiing caught there could be a possibility.

I haven't heard of any Cod being caught around here but there could be. When do the Cod normally come in?

Usuall around this time of the year. After there has been a strong onshore wind is supposed to be the best time I think.
