Bait: Mack, Rag, Lug, Razor & Squid

Rigs: Two hook flappers (2up & 1up 1down)

Results: Me 10+ whiting and a rockling, the bro 5 whiting

Having tried Greystones a few times without success last month my persistence paid off last night. We got lucky from the off with both our first cast bring in a fish each. We were getting a fish every second cast. There was some weed about and started to seem like it was going to be like last time but it cleared up and I was glad I only lost one rig. At one stage I thought I was in to a nice flattie but the weed had caught me out What made last night sweet was that they are were all own traces and I was delighted that I had caught fish after spending a few evenings at the kitchen table making them up.

We decided also to experiment with bait last night and what seemed to work best was rag tipped with mack and then later on the razor fish could do no wrong on its own. That's when I caught what I think was a small rockling about 15cms in length. When the bait finished up it coincided with the batteries on our lamps so we packed up and were happy with our lot. No fish was over 20cm but we were content.

well done dfella, nice to get a few on your own rigs, i found it hard tying knots as i have 5 thumbs on each hand , but got there in the end. Looks like a shore rockling to me.

Wish i'd have thought of that

when fishing the beach and making your own rigs there are only two or three knots that really matter and if you use these only, they'll rarely fail depending on the line you use. i rarely ever use anything other than a three hook flapper and always tie them the same unless targeting smoothies, large cod etc.... beads on the snoods are optional. i could show ya these knots in ten mins if ya liked.

WrasseBasher I have been using the palomer knot and the improved clinch knot and they all held! I have not tried any snood knots yet though. I see what you mean about using a 3 hook flapper though. Although I got no doubles the fish were in and an extra hook may have helped. Looks like I have some home work for tonigh

simple but strong is defo the way forward a grinner knot is a great one for all occassions

Those are NOT fishermans hands

ITS A GOOD STRONG KNOT I USUALLY TURN IT THREE TIMES EACH WAY FOR SNOODS AND WET THE MONO WITH SALIVA BEFORE TIGHTNING IT. IT WILL RARELY IF EVER FAIL YOU. GLAD I WAS OF ASSISTANCE TO YOU.

Nice to see you got your reward for not giving up. Its always nicer to get fish on your own rigs started tying my own this year and when I'm using my old bought ones I b***h about how craply made they are.

Have to look up that knot I always use a Uni knot which is very effective.
