West Donegal Mark - 27th October 08

Tue Oct 28, 2008 12:27 pm

People:Sean and myself

Duration:5.30pm to 8.00pm

Tide:Dropping from high water at 6pm

Weather:Dull and cold, north westerly

Bait:Lug and mackerel
dd
Rigs:Flappers, 1 hook running ledger

Results:Loads of poor cod, doggies, pollock, dab and half dozen eels

Report: Had a short but productive session in what felt like the first proper cold session of the winter. Out on the sand seemed carpeted with poor cod, tips rattling away goodo. Plenty of dogs in through them and quite a few double shots. The two of us both had dogs swallow whole poor cod that had taken the lug and had lain there hooked. Last cast of the day saw quadruple of dogfish, poor cod, poor cod, conger....with the eel(about 4lb) having gobbled the hooked poor cod on the bottom hook. Flatties were scarce aside from one dab, albeit a good one.

Few congers in close also including a rather nice fish of about 20lb to 25lb which Sean snook out on a mackerel head. Lovely looking beast and capped things off nicely.

Cheers lads, bit of motion seemed to have put them on the feed alright. Was mad to see the bigger predators grabbing the hooked poor cod, even average size doggies were fit to wold down 16 - 20 cm fish.
