Report:
Howling south westerly winds touching gale force & heavy showers greeted our 14 intrepid anglers on the Ferrypoint in Youghal on Saturday afternoon. Fishing to the right of the moorings we had fine shelter given the conditions & hopes were high of a few fish especially when on the first cast Dennis reeled in a nice flounder, caught close in.
Next off the mark was JP with a nice flounder & Lee on the next peg had an undersize flattie, a decent start, and it looked like a decent number of fish would be needed to win, however, things suddenly changed for the worse. It got very quiet for about an hour and a half with no fish coming to anyone. I decided after a fruitless 2 hours to try a bit further out, got a nice rattle and felt a bit of weight on the way in, a nice coalie & flounder double. Then a shout from Paul who brought in a dog & flounder double and just seconds later Keith brought in a nice flounder.
Shortly after a yelp of "Yes boy" was to be heard on the spit, The boy Molloy landed the biggest flounder I have ever seen. The phrase dustbin lid is bandied about regarding flats but this was a special fish, 54cm long and a shade over 3lbs, comfortably a specimen & an incrediable fish. Dennis & Keith got photos, pls post them up soon lads.
Fishing was very slow after that, with Pete & Marco taking a small bass each, JP had a third flounder and Fintan (the swine) on the last cast taking a 38cm coalie to pip me to the longest round. I had an undersize whiting on the last cast which gave JP an uncomfortable few minutes before he found out he was the winner & takes an unprecedented 3rd Master Angler Comp in a row.
1st - JP
2nd - Alby
3rd - Paul (lover of the male chicken)
4th - Fintan

Good man alby for doing the report. Well done JP on the specimen flounder (48cms by the way) and the win for that matter. Horrible conditions, wasn't pleasant at all, fair play to all who made the effort to drive down for that.

Congrats JP. That photo doesn't do the flounder justice, it was mighty impressive to see come in beside you.
