Glenarm beach co Antrim 24/10/08

Sun Oct 26, 2008 5:02 pm

People: Me and Jonny

Duration: 17:00 to 11:30

Tide: High at 20:30

Weather:dd Strong west/south westerly wind and some heavy showers

Bait: Rag, mackeral and sandeel
dd
Rigs: Single hook clipped and 2 hook flappers

Results: Me 2 dogs 1 small codling and 1 coalie, Jonny 1 dog

Report: With the strong wind from the southwest we decided that a sheltered spot would be best so opted for Glenarm beach with the hope that we could get down in front of the wall at the police station for cover. This was a good move as we were totally sheltered with only occasional gusts of wind.

The fishing was very slow and every cast came back with the hooks stripped by crabs. Any fish were hardly getting a chance to find the baits.

There were 4 other anglers on the beach and they only managed a dog between them which is quite unusual for this beach as it can mostly be relied on to produce.

There was however a lot of very brown water coming down the river and quite a bit of weed which may have affected the fishing. Still good to get out tho.

good fishing considering the circumstances! that beach usually does produce the goods but the odd time it can be dire. from past experience whenever theres alot of fresh water coming from the river the fish move out. fished cushendun a while back and the water was like tea and the fishing was crap!!

I've had the same problem mate. About this time last year Cushendun was unfishable with all the leaves and crap comming down the river so i expect Glenarm is suffering too. There was a hell of a lot of weed about close in too

Lovely beach Glenarm, surprised you didn't encounter any flounders?
