South Dublin bass mark 25/10/08

Sun Oct 26, 2008 12:27 pm

People:Just me

Duration:20.30-22.30

Tide:incoming, full at 22.30

Weather:dry, the odd light shower, breezey

Bait:rag, lug, mack

Rigs:pennel pulley, 3 hook flapper

Results: 1 bass (46cm), 6 whiting

Report: Work and the weather have prevented me from getting out lately but after getting a new rod today, I was heading out for a few hours to try it out regardless of the weather. I had thought about a couple of marks that would afford a bit of protection from the wind/rain, decided to hit a mark I have fished just a few times with mixed results. It can only really be fished for 2/3 hours upto high water, so this was perfect just to get a short fishing fix  Got set up with the pulley first, loaded with a huge lug worm on the pennel and lobbed it out around 60 yards. Then got the flapper out baited with mack and rag. Was into bites immediately, but only very small taps. Then the pulley rod bent round nicely, I struck and missed the fish. Thinking the fish might still be around, I reeled it in about 10 yards and set it back down in the tripod. 5 minutes later, bang, then a slackliner.....took in the slack and yep, fish on....a nice bass of 46cm.

Bites continuted, but nothing too exciting, got a few pin whiting(not the best way to christen my new rod  ), but not much else to report really, bites slowed down as high water approached.

All the whiting took rag, apart from one who took the lug on the pennel.

I was suprised that there were no flounder around, and (pleasantly) suprised at the lack of eels....I was plagued with them last time I fished here.

I had forgot my camera, but did get a photo on my phone (not easy without a flash)....just gotta work out how to get it onto my pc now :?

Sorry lads, I should just say....the bass wasnt caught on the new rod  , it was got on a rod I've had a while.

I did get most of the whiting on the new rod

But hey, just nice to be out....as you say Dave, not too many would have bothered with the weather as it was, but if you try hard enough, you'll find a spot that's sheltered on the east coast, whatever the weather.

By the way, my 2nd choice spot was the bathing shelters off the south bull island, fishing out onto Dollymount strand. Its ideal if there is a strong wind/rain coming from the west or south. Dry and wind free.......just not much fish last time I tried
