Theres a fisrt time for everything i suppose so yesterday myself and my good austrian friend Andreas went bait fishing for the first time. Expectations werent high but we thought we,d give a mark in ballycotton a try as it produced some nice pollack and mackerel in the sumeer (

) months so we set off with mackerel and sandeels as bait not expcting much to happen.
Set up 2-hook flapper rigs i had sandeel on both and my friend had sandeel and mackerel on his. Fished 4 hrs before high tide and caught two very nice pollack first time out wasnt too bad was kind of dreading bait fishing but once i hooked into a fish the heart started pounding and now im all set to go again tonight and fish into darkness.

Nice one, I started my bait fishing career down in Ballycotton as well. Used to fish it loads, but haven't been down much in recent years, but it's a handy place when you are starting out. Used to get loads of whiting, doggies, coalies, the odd flat, pollack and strap and an occasional codling at distance. Some nice congers handing around near the pier as well. Had some other bits and pieces from it at various times.
Good luck to you anyway.
