People:just me

Duration:6.30 - 12.30

Tide:high- dropping

Weather:wet and windy

Bait:squid rag and mack
dd
Rigs:two hook raigs and pulley

Results:4 flounder, 2 dabs 3 small pollack and 5 doggies ( think one may have been huss)

Report:
headed for the pier as i didnt want to set up on the beach in case the weather got any worse,
when i arrived a fella was landing 6 mack a cast on the feathers, opted to stick with fishing the
bottom and left him to the mackies. landed first little flattie within minutes then it slowed off
for an hour or so. started tipping the rag with squid and then things hotted up. put out a full
squid on the pulley and fifteen minutes later rod nearly doubled, struck in hard but didnt connect
got te bait in and you should have seen yhe chunk missing from its side.was dark at about 8.30
and the doggies started about 9ish. got a good hard knock about 10ish and landed my biggest
ever doggie although i think it might have been a huss as it put up one hell of a scrap and the rod
was doubled as i lifted it up onto the pier. good mix of fish after that till i headed home.
two lads fishing there caught a few fish that looked to me like a cross between bass ans mullet,
they had large shiny scales but no spiked fins or chuncky lip, were caught on feathers about
11 in pitch black.

can huss be caught of the pier or did i just get a big doggie?
any ideas what type of fish it was the other lads caught?

me and my mat caught herring in pitch black on feathers round at red bay, large shiny scales and stunk even when freshly caught, is this what it was?

Great session mate! I've heard of Huss being caught from Ramore head and they do like sandy ground so it may well have been one that you got. Dont see any reason why you would'nt catch them at Red Bay.

There are slight differences between Huss and Dogs so you need to look carefully around the mouth area and the marking should be slightly different but it can be very hard to tell as even dogs are marked differently. I've caught them from almost all sand coloured to completly black.

The spots on huss should be bigger.
