Report:
Sorry on late report my pc was dead. This was my first time to use rag as bait as my only fishing to date was trying to catch a bass on lures no joy  my first cast was a wrasse well i foul hooked him still counts. caught 2 more nice wrasse after that then i lost my two rigs. I threw out a single hook float and set up my other rod for a bit of spinning. while i was spinning away i forgot about my float ,about 10min later i looked over to were my float was i could not see it, all i seen was a bend in the rod I dropped my new mike ladle rod on the rocks  and ran to my float rod when i picked it up i thought i was snagged as i had already lost 2 rigs this way then i felt a thump on the rod i reeled in a 40cm pollock well i think it is. I have lost big fish here before on lures so im delighted to get this one. I had a great day and i was glad to catch some wrasse dont know what kind they are but they are realy a beautiful looking fish. I have a lot to learn like Rag do bite, dont drop your new rod on the rocks, and keep your eye on the float  i have few phots will post them later trying to work out how to post them

Well done on the wrasse and pollock.

Wrasse are definitely nice looking fish - and their colours are so variable. Even from the same location no two wrasse are alike.

You want to watch out for those rag pincers alright - I havn't been bitten yet but have come close a few times with big king rag (ones as thick as your thumb and 1.5 -2 ft long   ).

Tip: sprinkle a bit of sand on them before you pick them up - give you a bit of grip to stop them wriggling around as you are trying to empale them on a hook.

Thanks for the tip Rockhunter. although im going mad to catch a bass i still think wrasse is the best looking fish we have in our sea.

Nicefish,

Good to hear you are getting a couple of nice fish. Wrasse are great fish. I just recently got into fishing again and didnt realise they where so common. Rag is great bait but the pincers can be nasty. I find the best thing to keep the pincers away from you and also the easiest way to get them on the hook without piercing them 3 or 4 times is to buy a baiting needle really simple and very cheap.
