Report: wit such a lovely evening i decided 2 use up the last of the rag from sunday.
decided to try for another new species after catching my 1st plaice on sunday (1st flat ever

)
got 2 the mark about 620 and set up. all was quiet 4 the 1st hr and then 2 wrase 1 after the other

at 1st i thought it was a pollock as it put up a good fight for its size.
theres nothing better than setting out 2 target a fish you never caught before and it pays of,
all i can say is im delighted
maybe someone can tell me what type of wrase they are please.
cheers wayne

Wrasse are great fish and not too hard to get once you get the hang of it (and you now have). Wait till you get them @ 3 lb + you will have a ball. The only thing is they dig in rather than make a run like Mullet or the couple of Bass I have caught this year. If they stripped line you would never fish for anything else. And they are great for using up your dead and half dead rag! a Conemara man once told me that they are the tastiest fish in the sea, but I remember my father taking me to the Aran Islands and bringing one back fro my Ma to cook......she got a recipe from BIM but the smell was rotten......we had to sell the house! I read a good recipe - place a wrasse in large pot of water containing a brick, boil for 12 hours and eat the brick!

Well done on getting you first wrasse.
They can give you a great fight alright - especially when they are over 2 lb. But even the small ones can put up a struggle - you think you have something much bigger on the end of the line until you get it to the surface.

as you say, the 1st i caught was the bigger of the 2 and he/she felt alot bigger than what it was
