courtown north beach, (the comp for a fiver)

Sun Oct 05, 2008 9:08 am

People:myself

Duration:3.30-7pm

Tide:couldn't tell

Weather: mild,raining and windy

Bait: maddies,rag,wraps,lug,sandeel and mack

Rigs: mostly three hook flappers

Results:plaice,dabs,whiting,flounders,bass

Report:headed down to wexford in search of a few fish, stopped off at courtown as it looked quite fishy, first cast for me got me a treble, of a plaice and two whiting, jack had a double of a flounder and a whiting, decided it would be good craic to have a comp for a fiver, and sure enough the fish didn't oblige, a fine stream of fish followed, with jack going three fish up,including a schoolie. time to pull the finger out, i clawed it back and went 6 fish in the lead, on the last jack had a treble and i landed a small counting dab. scores added up i had a narrow win with 28 fish to jack's 24 fish.the money tasted sweet, or would have if i actually got it. suppose 52 fish isn't bad work for 3 and a half hours work in daylight, great beach, all the fish were at max 30 yrds out

whatever we put on the hook, small bits of rag and wraps just covering the hook did the job, one major problem was the fish shaking the hooks out, at one time 4 minutes was too long to leave the rig out
