Lure Fishing Marks around Lahinch/Doolin

Fri Sep 26, 2008 12:46 pm

Hi,

Im heading to Lahinch this weekend for some surf lessons, but have quite a bit of spare time over the weekend and was thinking of packing the lure rod for a few casts to see if can locate me first bass or some pollack, does anyone know of any marks that are worth a go.

Appreciate any help - and will let you know how I get on.

Thanks

You can fish with lures around the Inagh estuary which is the river which flows into the sea north of Lahinch you can also lure fish around doolin but its one of the most dangerous beaches in Ireland so I wouldnt advise you to fish that area as the swells are huge there but in safe conditions Doolin beach it supposed to be the best beach in Ireland for the bass

Surfed it many a time mate, enjoy the day by the way. Once you get the bug you are screwed...! :-)

I have thought about combining the two, tieing a popper to the back of my board...!
Seen plenty of fish in waves while I was waiting to catch a wave.

But the whole area is very bassey.
The rocks to the left of the beach look great for a popper.
When the tide is full, the rocks at the front of the beach it have to be worth a try with a plug.

I would try a very early pre dawn session with a spinner/plug. Has to be worth a shot.

Well firstly thanks for the tips, I ended up trying a few of the marks mentioned but sadly was not meant to be.

I fished a little harbour near Liscannor on the incoming tide but had one or two follows on spinners from something small couldnt make it out in the dark water, so decided to have a move to some rocks just round the corner a great spot and on its day I would say throws up some great fish a real bass/pollack looking area, but this time the best spot had swimmers in it so another move was on the cards this time to the pub.

On sunday before the next surf lesson I decided to give the inagh estuary a go and looking at it from the bridge it looked promising with a big shoal of sea trout I set off to see what I could get, sadly nothing lots of sandeels being chased and great splashes on the water from fish jumping the time the shoal moved nearer I though finally could have something and thats when a cormorant appeared and attacked the shoal, some times its just not meant to be thats fishing!

So the surfing was good and saw some great spots for fishing when im back next time, thanks for the tips.

HI

Your seatrout may in fact be mullet, big speicmens in the river.
Be careful lure fishing on the river as there are sections of quicksand.
The marker in the middle is a memorial to a priest who died there trying to cross it to give last rites to a parishoner decades ago. Not a spot for people unfamiliar with it. survey it at low water...
