People: Me, Francis and Steve ( Round_Ourway)
Duration: 10.30am-6pm
Tide:
Weather: Nice
Bait: Rag/Lug/Mack/Sandeel
dd
Rigs: Pennels, 2 hook flappers, 3 hook flappers.
Results: 3 coalies, 1 flounder, 1 codling and 2 doggies.
Report: We made our way to Leenan Pier first with the plan to fish there for a while and then move to Fahan on the dropping tide and a crack at the Thornies.
It looked promising at Leenan with a Coalie first chuck for me, but the wind picked up and made bite detection a bit difficult. We stuck to it for a couple of hours with a couple more coalies for me and a codling for Francis.
Leenan Pier is a cracking little mark and we left promising to go back soon for the whole day and maybe have a go on the small beach.
When we arrived at Fahan the wind had dropped and things looked perfect for the Thornies. After an hour or so me and Steve both had a Doggie each but that was it, no Thornies to be seen. Thats the way it stayed and me and Francis are yet to catch a Thornie, but he did manage a nice sized Flounder just before we left.

Sounds like a good trip. Pitty about the thornies though. Judging by the reports on this site that place has been fishing well for them. Must be the old " you should have been here last week mate ".

Lenan can be very difficult to fish if the wind is to strong, its always better to cut your loss's
and move on to another mark more sheltered. i'am sorry that you did not conect with the rays at fahan, as it is fishing great at the minute, i was at fahan today for less than two hours and got five ray and one doggie, i left before low tide cos the wind was getting to strong and the rain started, best ray was just over 6lb. another guy fishing from the rocks by the marina had two 3lb and 5lb one doggie and a nice seatrout of app:2 1/2lb.
hope you have better luck on your next vist.....

Its just one of those things I guess but it would have been good to latch on to one.

it was a good day and we thought it was a perfect day for it but we couldnt connect with any thornies. Fished it a couple of times like that with only doggies for our efforts. I was surprised that no one else was on the beach with such a day. great to get out with the lads and definitley give leenan another blast.
What bait were the thornies taking yesterday mate. i threw everything at them. from squid, mackerel, sandeel

same baits as you were useing, but also a little trick i use on fahan.
witch is deadly for thornie's.
mash up old mac;, tined tuna, sardines, sprats more or less anything you get your hands on,
fill squid tubes with the mixture and stich up the end, give it a few perse's with the knife
and thats it, when in the water the the mixture slowly washes out leaveing a sent trail,
it works great for the rays(and the doggies)..

They were small enough fish but would say that leenan comes into its own at night.
cheers for the num1 will definitley give that a bash next time as we had a mountain of bait coming home so going to mash it up and throw it into a bag in the freezer. well done in getting a couple of thornies yourself mate.

We were saying that the mark looked like it would be good for Conger. I will have to make sure we take the right tackle and have a go for them next time.
Bad luck on loosing out on what sounds like a good fish.
