West Cork Beach, 12/09/2008

Sun Sep 14, 2008 10:00 pm

People: me and Nik

Duration: 19:00 - 00:00

Tide: HW around 18:00 I think

Weather: nice, bit chilly later

Bait: razor, mack

Rigs: single hook clip down, three hook flapper

Results: one bass to Nik

Report: Out on the old favourite, been neglecting it recently, due to weather and time constraints.
Very weedy when I got down there, so found the clearest patch I could and setup, whereupon Nik joined me.
Weed just got worse as the tide receded, fed up we moved down the beach only to find it was even worse. We moved back down, only persevering as Nik hasn't been out much recently and wanted a fish - I was all for going home. As the surf was calming, we waded out, blasted the baits out and held up the rods which negated most of the weed problems we were having.
Good call, as Nik got a familiar banging bite, followed by a slack line. He reeled in and landed himself a bass of about 50cm. He was delighted, and wasted no time in firing another one out.
The weed seemed to clear not long after as it got closer to low and we moved back out of the water and onto the rodstands. Not long after we both had slack line bites, but managed to miss the fish responsible.
Quiet then after that until we left at 12, so I could grab a few precious hours before meeting for a mackerel hunt at 6am as a prelude to shark hunting, but that's another story....

"single hook clip down, three hook flapper" ? You're getting really technical these days. How is Ballycotton Pier fishing these days?

yes, it is a far cry from having a lump of lead and a hook tied on to my line all those years ago down in Ballycotton - not that it stopped us catching mind you.
Been down there once or twice in the past few years and nothing to show for it......., better employed heading a bit further on to the beaches.
Anyway, you'd be better getting your rods out again instead of living vicariously through my poor reports :P

Too lazy for beach fishing. I need a wall to lean against.

What about Aghada? Everyone says 'there should be thornbacks but never got any there'.

Seen one thornie taken down there, only fished it twice I think (once with you I am sure). They are around that general area somewhere anyway so I am assured, not that I have ever got one. Have another mark for them that I haven't tried since earlier this year.
