Ennereilly 30-August-2008

Sun Aug 31, 2008 10:57 pm

People: Me

Duration:6-9 pm

Tide:bottomed up, turning

Weather: dead calm, fair

Bait:rag

Rigs: one rod, one hook, 100 m out.

Results:me-1 small bass, 3 decent flounders (1 lb), 2 dabs, 2 small pollack.

Fished closer to the river at Pennycomequick this time. Calm conditions. Was delighted with the little bass and the flounders (all returned alive). No specimens, but a pleasant evening with 4 species. First bass I ever had at this location. I've a feeling fishing closer to the weedbeds pays off, but it is a real graveyard for tackle. I was actually being driven nuts by small flatfish bites at one point. Once darkness fell the bites disappeared too.

Sadly, the event spoiled by the rubbish and fire aftermath thanks to the idiots from the night before (see separate posting).

Well, I fish this one pretty hard and systematically, holding the rod all the time, changing baits and range every 20 mins or so. I think if flounders are your thing then this beach is OK. Otherwise, stay on the North Beach...:)

I'm hoping for a return of the smoothies! I'm not giving up.
