People: Myself and Colin

Duration: 5 hours

Tide: around low and up two hours

Weather: awful. F8, gusting 9 SW. misting rain on occassion, finally came down permanently around 8:30 and the light disappeared

Bait: limpet harvested off rocks

Rigs: one hook rotten bottom rigs, lures and feathers

Results: 2 pollack best 3.5 lbs, 5 ballen wrasse, best 3 lbs

Report: Was originally going to try to fish the Danish Cellar again for photos of a specimen wrasse but when we got there the wind was being funnelled down the valley and it would have been madness to try to fish off the top of the cliffs. Looking into the new loop walkway up to Erris Head, they have installed new metal stiles with handgrips, brilliant, around 5 klicks of a walk in a circular route, gives access to the whole area, will be exploring it soon as the weather improves, some fantastic looking grounds and sheltered from the SW too...

Was concerned about heading to the Blind Harbour / Tippe PIer so we agreed to give the sailor's graveyard a go, first time for colin down what can be a treacherous path... got down fine to find wind was largely blowing over the top but down drafts made casting lures wild... line would billow up thirty metres and swing wildly away dragging lure onto the surface!

Colin landed a beautifully coloured small pollack around 1.5 lbs on his second cast into the sheltered LH cove but that was it. I tried the RHS and lost a lure and two feathers to the snag, really dumb. Nothing doing. Decided to fish for wrasse in the weeds given the rough conditions. The ground here is mostly sand which surprises most people and as such the wrasse have never been anything to write home about but up popped a nice fat fish of about 1.5 lbs after ten minutes. Colin decided to join in and suitably rigged up landed his first ever ballen of about 2 lbs. Nice fish for here. Fifteen minutes later he landed the best ballen of the day, certainly over 3 lbs. Great fish for straight down under your feet - mind you there is about 15 feet of water here at low water and a small "hidden" ledge cum hole. Joined him after an unsuccessful lure fishing hour, and landed some more wrasse, nothing special in them. Went back to lure fishing when the light began to fade and tide turned producing some nice white water and boils off the point and landed another beautifully coloured pollack close to 4 lbs to a rolla salmon lure! Colin switched to lures again but a seal showed up and parked itself no more than 15 metres offshore, looking at us intently. Never seen a seal stay so close to anglers before, got a nasty idea that someone has been feeding him? Anyway that and the deteriorating weather killed the fishing stone dead. No cobwebs left today!!!

That's not too bad considering the conditions. Shame about the seal, they can be a nuisance when they hang about like that!
