Report:Took a day's leave from work to bring the lovely wife out for the day. Went to Courtown with the rods etc in the boot   .I had intended to fish the Harbour and try for an eel or two to add to the species list, but there wasnt much room on one side, and the other was taken up with a few young lads and a rake of bottles of beer so I didnt fancy it.
I went to Roney point and there was a guy there (directly in front of the little laneway) who was fishing since 11am (it was now 3-30pm) and had nothing to show and was packing up. He showed me some rocks to the left where he said he saw a guy catch the biggest bass he ever saw so I decided to try there. It wasnt too far of a walk and i set up one rod for baitfishing at the bottom of the rocks with the intention of climbing up a bit and spinning with the other. The tide was low and the water was very coloured.
First thing to go wrong was when i didnt check to see if the line was caught around the tip,,,,,,, first cast,,,,,,a crack off   At least there was nobody around to see it   .And i'd done such a good job baiting up   . I started spinning from the rocks with one eye on the beachcaster. I should have kept both eyes on the spinner cos after a few casts i lost the lure to some strong weed  I was more careful with the next one and i suppose we all learn from our mistakes. I enjoyed casting the spinner but it would have been better if i actually caught something. After a few hours (i'm a slow learner  )with the baits untouched i decided to move halfway back up the beach and set up there. The same story here, not a nibble, the only incident being a dog pi##ing on my gear,,, and his "mummy" giving out to me for cursing at him,,,,poor thing  :? He was lucky mummy was there or he'd have gotten a kick up the a#rs
After another hour in this spot i moved to where the first guy(who blanked) had been. Theres a flat piece of rock there and i set up , the only thing being that the waves were crashing into it rising up a bit of spray. It was about 7pm by now and i was getting that "blank" feeling. Then it happened,,,,,,,,,were my eyes deceiving me :?: :?: ,,,, the tip started to dance,,,,,,,,, dont panic i said to myself,,,,,this is supposed to happen :) :) . I reeled in and as it got nearer and the leader mover from side to side in the water i knew i had a fish on. Great   ,,,,,,no blank. The old reliable doggie had come to my rescue,,,,, and just at a time when some people were passing 8) 8) . There were some nice rockpools handy so i unhooked him and took some pics. Two anglers passed by heading for the rocks to spin for bass but when they returned later on they had blanked. In the meantime i managed to catch a flounder and another doggie, all three fish coming as the light faded. I put the flounder in a small pool and went for the camera ,,,,when i went to look for him it took me a while to see him even though he was right in front of me,,,,great camouflage   The fishing was just picking up but unfortunately i had to go as the wife had returned( nearly bogging the car in a wet gravelly part of the lane,,,, but thats another story!!!) Another enjoyable day fishing,,,,, why didnt i take it up 20 yrs ago :? :?
