nice one lads, im becoming a bit of a mullet fanatic from all of these reports, i havent even caught one yet despite trying all day yesterday. i had a poke about millisle but couldnt see any rises so i didnt get the gear out. is the lagoon on the donaghadee side of the long pier? what state of tide do you reckon is best?

nice one on the mullet ,any photos of the golden grey ,what sort of size was it ? I've never heard of one this far north so it'll be interesting to see .

i have a pic if i can get it on it roughly 1 pound which isnt bad for a golden grey considerin the specimen size is 1.5 pounds. we got the 3 mullet on the flood tide on maggots popped up on to the surface.

no but i`ve had thick lipped mullet that have a golden spot either side of the head, infact some of them have had golden "spots" just about everywhere.
would love to see the photo and it would be nice to think they are moving this far north.

forgot to say next time you catch one hold it upside down while gently holding the gill covers together then take a photo.thats one of the best ways to ID it.also a close-up of its head side on would be nice too

Fair play to you Dan the patience paid off in the end. I saw you both on my way home and wondered if it were you or whether Mullet mad Davy had popped down to try and cure the Mullet Fever.

i took a walk down this morning but i didnt see them but at low tide they tend to go on to the bottom. its only the flood tide you seem to see them.

the pic davy showed looked a bit like mine but mine didnt look much like a thick lipped. i have a dvd on mullet fishing and they show you a pic of a golden grey it looked like it. if you use a size 14 hook and maggots fished on the top and feed with bread youll get them. use a feeder rod, a large waggler fished flat on the top so that it doesnt spook them, a 4-6Ibs fluro carbon hoook length. when you put shots on put them around the float preferibly 3 BBs and 1 AAA but it all depends on the waggler but make sure it takes atleast 3 SSGs.

yesterday afternoon my brother my uncle (drew) and i went down but we didnt even see any. yesterday morning i saw them and managed to hook a fish that went charging off and broke a 6Ibs hooklength.

just had a closer look at davyys pic is there a chance it could be a golden grey.....................
the gold spot on the gill of mine was darker. boy it faught harder than the thick lipped even though my thick lipped was about 4oz bigger.
