Portrush rock mark monday 18th august

Mon Aug 18, 2008 11:22 pm

People: me jordan and ronald

Duration: 11am - 7pm

Tide: dropping ,to low to rising

Weather: calm and dry until the rain lashed down

Bait: rag lug mack and blueys

Rigs: 2 hook flappers and conger gear

Results: lesser spotted dogfish, pollock, coalfish, corkwing wrasse, ballen wrasse and conger :D

Report: ronald gave me a shout at short notice and asked if we wanted a run up the coast for a bit of a conger hunt, and well we don't need much more of an excuse than that to break out the heavy gear and head out regardless of the weather   on arrival the weather was ok, overcast but mild and dry. so we set up a rod each for wrasse and a rod each for conger. we all caught a good selection of wrasse and pollock and even a few coalies to boot. ronald got the biggest fish of the day with a ballen wrasse not a kick in the ass off 4lb and a conger knocking on the door of double figures  jordan did the double with his personal best pollock at 1lb and a half and his first conger around the 4lb mark. i did'nt do too bad either with my first conger around 6lb :D :D :D it's also worth mentioning that jordan got his conger on ronalds rod and gear after he was near pulled in by one on his own which he unfortunately lost in the thick kelp    so cheers ronald, top bloke :P the wee man is still buzzing, he'll be dreaming about the one that got away tonight, if he ever goes to sleep that is

Seeing jordan pulling and hauling on the conger he lost was pretty funny ,he was giving it loads just unfortunate it got its head down in the kelp but the wee man wasn't giving up without a fight  the one he got on my rod was hooked and played by himself ,all i done was get ready to grab his hood if he went headfirst towards the water .
pity the rain came on and made the rocks a bit slippy :? maybe next time you2 get the double figure fish .

cheers guys for all the replies. jordan has sat all morning stareing at the pics of his conger on the computer drooling and lementing about the one that got away      he reckons it was the big one you got ronald      . i did'nt think he was going to get to sleep last night he was that excited. last time i saw him like that was the time he glugged down a couple of cans of red bull on the sly at my friends wedding       and thanks ronald, i got the rest of the pics you emailed to me this morning. it was a great day that jordan or i will not forget in a hurry 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) he's already sorted out his conger gear in anticipation of the next trip      he's gonna have it planned like a millitary operation     and just like the americans he has no interest in any kind of a speedy exit strategy       don't think nothing short of a massive swell or the sky falling will get him off that mark

Al,

Nice one good to see you both with new species to add to your ever growing list. Fair play to Jordan for having a go at the conger nice to see he got the reward.

Ronald would need to be careful he is going to end up a guide for that spot!!
