Report:MEANT TO GO SATURDAY BUT IT RAINED TOO MUCH   . MEANT TO GO SUNDAY MORNING EARLY BUT DRANK TOO MUCH    . ARRIVED IN GREYSTONES AT 7PM AND WAS SURPRISED AT THE FINE WEATHER. SUNNY  ,WARM  ,,,,,,WHATS GOING ON :? :? . THERE WERE A FEW GUYS WHERE I WANTED TO FISH BUT I HAD MET THEM BEFORE SO WAS COMFORTABLE SETTING UP NEXT TO THEM. THEY HAD BEEN THERE A FEW HOURS AND HAD CAUGHT NOTHING SO IT WASNT LOOKING TOO GREAT :? . FIRST COUPLE OF CASTS WITH LUG AND SQUID ATTACHED PRODUCED NOTHING, NO BITES ,,,,,BAIT UNTOUCHED  :? . I WAS GETTING DEJA VU,,,,, THIS HAPPENED BEFORE AND IT DIDNT END WITH A HAPPY OUTCOME  . I SET UP THE SPINNING ROD WITH A LURE AND ON THE SECOND CAST I HAD A GOOD TAKE. NOT BEING USED TO THE SMALL SPINNING ROD I THOUGHT I HAD A BASS ON   ,, IT WAS SUCH A GOOD FIGHT BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE A HUMBLE MACKERAL, BUT I'M EASILY PLEASED AS YOU ALL WILL KNOW BY NOW AND WAS DELIGHTED.  As HE WAS GOING TO BE BAIT FOR THE NEXT SESSION I DISPATCHED HIM QUICKLY BY BREAKING HIS NECK( pulling his head upwards) I WAS SHOWN THIS BEFORE BUT DIDNT REALISE THERE WAS GOING TO BE SO MUCH BLOOD    ,,,,,,,, IT WAS LIKE THE OPENING SEQUENCE OF SAVING PRIVATE RYAN,,,SO I DIDNT BOTHER WITH PICTURES. maybe someone could advise on whether this affects the quality of the bait when frozen. A while later i reeled in the bait rod to find a flounder attached. this was to be it for the evening. i stayed till well into darkness and was sure the doggies would make an appearance , but to my surprise they didnt  . i was lucky to get the mack who must have got lost. maybe all the rain had an effect and kept the fish out further( please agree with me  ). Anyways i got my fishing fix for the weekend

ps congrats to fishface who got a fab smoothie during the week ,,,he must be too modest to post the pic,,,,so i'll do it for him,,,, the doctors cant get the smile off his face

About 50 yds out, got him just as the lure hit the water :)

Good to get a fresh bait supply - and at lease you didn't blank.

Souns like the weather was waa lot better there than on the southwest coast - that was grim

Hey where are ya getting the flounder in grey stones off the rocks..?? i only ever pick up dabs and small plaice there. Just wondering...??? :d

Plenty of flounder from the rocks, either side of the small bay.

Try longish snoods(2-3ft) on a 3 hook flapper, good quality ragworm tends to be best, but lug, mack, mussel, squid etc will still get you the odd flounder.

breaking necks

Hi

breaking necks of mackerel is far preferable to letting them flop about the place... not sure how you got so much blood on you, normally there is little or none, in fact what you have to watch for is an explosive discharge from the other end!!!
