Mon Aug 11, 2008 3:20 am

People: Myself and petekd

Duration: 20:30-00:00

Tide: flooding

Weather: fine, nice southerly breeze

Bait: razor, mack, rag

Rigs: pulleys, flappers, lures

Results: petekd: 2 bass 2 flounder / me: 3 flounder

Report: I'm visiting Kinsale for a few days so i put the feelers out to see if anyone could recomend any good marks petekd kindly offered to meet up with me and pass on some local knowledge. Arrived at the mark to see a decent surf running quick introduction and handshakes. There was a little bit of weed in the water, petekd was surprised as he thought there'd be more with the high winds we've been getting over the last few days. Pete had one flounder accounted for so i set up one rod mid distance pennel pulley baited with razor and my spinning rod in the suds with a 3 hook flapper rag tipped with mack. After a quick chat about the mark and how it fishes it was time to try some tobys and krills etc as the light was just starting to fade gradually petekd reckoned we might connect with some bass. I picked up my spinning rod to reel in and felt a little wriggle flattie i thought and sure enough a nice little flounder :) first cast, fish i'm liking this place already!! We tried a few different lures /spinners but to no effect so 3 hook flapper was back on the spinning rod in the suds. It was quiet for an hour or so with petekd picking up another flounder the tide was filling nicely when i heard petekd shout BASS and there was a nice schoolie coming through the surf :D he fell for the razor mid distance. Rods were quickly rebaited and repositioned with renewed vigour they're out there we said  I went over to check my rods when i heard another BASS on!! This one was decent we didn't measure or weight him but i'd say 3lb / 3.5lb and he fell for the flatie rig in close rag tipped with mack i think. The two bass were caught within around 15-20mins of each other. Petekd packed up around a half hour later and i stayed on for another hour the surf picked up and i tried in vain to connect with a bass although i did get a couple of bangs without a hook up :( all was not lost as i picked up a double shot of flounder to rag and mack in the suds :) It was nice to be able to get out and fish somewhere completely new as i've never fished in Cork before. I must say a very BIG THANK YOU you to petekd for taking the time out to meet up with me and also for bringing the bait (a bucketfull) which he left with me i hope to get out for one more session before i head back to Galway. Much obliged pete your a gent and i hope i can return the favour the next time your visiting Galway or Wexford.

Good man for posting the pics and report so quick.... :D Nice to put a face to the name, sorry you didnt get your bass but sure thats fishing. Myself and Lee (Scotsman) have formed the opinion that you have to serve an apprenticeship on this beach as any time we bring anyone down to it, they end up catching sod all so well done on the flats....

I was surprised at the lack of weed as this mark would be known for it, particularly in southerly winds and and especially as myself and Gav got tortured with it the previous night in East Cork.

Pleasant evenings fishing aside from the usual pests, 2 and 4 legged. Nod and smile pete, dogs have to urinate somwhere, nod and smile......

This unfortunately is true and its probably 3 years in all honesty. Arent most apprenticeships 4 years? In that case, 2009 is going to be a great year for you.... :D
