Duration: 9 TO 12.30AM
Tide: h/w 11pm
Weather: windy
Bait:LUG SQUID SANDEEL
Rigs: PULLYS / BOMBERS
Results: WEAVER / MACKEREL / BASS
Report:
The moon / wind and tide stopped me doing any work on Saturday thank god.. So I told one of the lads ( Nobber ) I was off to get a Bass that night and a mullet on Sunday.. He said, your very sure of yourself aren.t you.. I said yes.. And we had a good laugh.. but wait till he see.s what I ended up with,
First came the weaver then the mackerel followed by the 2 Bass the biggest being 66cm and he came in last which topped of my evening nicely.. The first Bass I could feel on the whole way in and just as the wave beached him the hook popped out,
I been told many times about Bass picking up the bait and making for the shore leaving you with a slack line.. But in all the Bass I have caught this bigger fish was the first to do it to me.. I had to run back up the beach before I could feel him on and as soon as he felt the pressure he shot toward me again.. Hi speed reel couldn.t keep up so I went for another run and it wasn.t until he came to shallow water that he let me know how big he was by ripping line from the reel as he made a dash back out to sea.. After nearly losing the first fish I played this one as if it was barely lip hooked but I needn.t have worried as he took it hard and buried the hook well inside the mouth.
I.m sure you will agree it was well worth missing a days work to have a result like this,
As for the mullet.. I woke this morning to find my eye lid stuck closed because of a little sand that got into it last night.. Looking at the pictures of the fish with my one good eye helps to ease the pain a little and the mullet will have to wait as I find the wind hitting the eye is fairly irritating so I must give it a rest.

the west coast seems to be producing a good number of bass this year for us all :)
hopefully we'll be able to put the east coast to shame soon

Cheers lads,
But I may have gave the wrong impression.. I was meaning to post this other picture of the first bass but got called away in the middle of it all.. The 2 pic.s above are of the one fish. sorry if there was any confusion,

PS, Steve, as for putting the east coast to shame well that could be done in the morning if there was as many people fishing the clare side as there are fishing the east side... but i'm happy to be able to pick a mark around clare and know that i will have it all to myself.. i dont know if i would be able to do that on the east side,

Thanks Salty / Murray, 8)
As far as I can recall the larger fish was 6.23lb, and the other came in under 3lb cant remember the exact weight,
But I can recall thinking I must have my scales calibrated ASAP as both fish looked heavier but maybe that was wishful thinking,
I hear there is a tape that will tell the weight of Bass give or take a few grams, I will have to get my hands on one or bring another set of scales to be sure to be sure. :)
