People: me and a few others
Duration: see report
Tide: low and high
Weather: Westerlys with occassional squally showers
Bait: peeler, king rag, lures
Rigs: pulleys and 1 up 1 down
Results: smoothhound and bass
Report: Headed of on Friday night to meet up with a few guys of the forum and try and catch my firts smoothhound. After driving down to Wexford met up with dbrock and headed of to the mark and arrived at about 19.30. Met a few other guys there. According to everyone the conditions were pretty good and certainly smoothies were expected. First few casts produced a couple of schoolies and a flounder to the other guys while my second cast produced my first, and the only smoothie of the night. My first starry and PB now stands at 2 ounces. That was pretty much it for the night. Many thanks to everyone and especially Denis for the advice and company.
Finished up after about a 3 hour session and I headed on down to Dungarvan. Caught a couple hours kip in the car and then fished a high water mark for a couple of hours at dawn. Water very coloured but managed one 3 lb bass on rag. Headed of for a bite to eat and sort out accomodation for the night and then set of for the low water mark i had planned to fish. Fished about 2 1/2 hours either side of low water and had 4 bass, all on lures. Another at 3 lb, 2 fish at 5 lb and a nice fish of 7lb. After little sleep the night before called it a day and headed back to the hotel.
I had another 3 hour session the following day at the low water mark but heavy squally showers certainly dampened me and the fishing, and i drew a blank, but the day before made up for it.
Sorry no pictures. Delayed putting the report up in the hope my camera would recover from the soaking it got but as yet no life in it despite a new battery. Its making strange noises trying to start but afraid it looks terminal.

Well done on the bass.
The Dungarvan area does seem to have a good stock of bass. I will have to get myself over that way sometime soon.

Thanks. The Dungarvan area does hold a good head of bass but there not always the easiest to find. The beaches are reasonably easy to fish but you need to know the area pretty well as some marks are only fishable at certain times. I think cortazs reports of his catches and people who fish with him give the impression the bass are suicidal, but he knows this area like the back of his hand and i know will find fish when others won't. I've been fishing it for 3 years now but i remember the first time i arrived at one of the marks and could just about see the water on the horizon, i hadn't a clue were to start.

That was a great session on the saturday. :) Well done.
Like you say there are fish there in good numbers, but it can be tricky finding them in different conditions and at the different states of the tide.
