West Clare, Bridges of Ross and nr. Moneypoint 4/08/2008

People: Ross, Mike , Emmet

Duration: 2 hours at Br. of Ross and 3 hrs. near Moneypoint

Tide: Low at Ross and HW at Moneypoint

Weather: Warm, slight Westerly breeze

Bait: Crab, shrimp and spinning 14g Green Viva Parade

Rigs: One Hook short dropper 18ins. above lead with rotten bottom

Results: Bridges of Ross
18 Ballan Wrasse, several around 3.5 lbs. Best 4 lbs. 4 ozs. Most on crab but good fish on shrimp also.


Results: Near Moneypoint
12 Bass Schoolies and several foul hooked Mullet which were in dense shoals including a small Golden Grey Mullet foul hooked by Emmet.
Has anyone caught them west of the Shannon?



Catch and Release: Yes/No: Yes



Report: Fished around LW at Ross as the mark is exposed only for a short period. Wrasse were a good average size. No sign of Triggers yet. Scuba divers in Kilkee reporting Triggers on Reefs in Kilkee Bay. They should be in range any day now!

Great fishing Ross, 18 wrasse in 2 hours is a very busy session 8)

Nice to see a golden grey, albiet foul hooked....but fair play to you for being honest about it, many other anglers (some I know) would have claimed the catch as genuine :roll:

I remember seeing a short segment a while ago on "Tight Lines", Skysports angling show. The presenter and a few other UK anglers had made the trip(which they did annually) to a west clare(I think, but could of been kerry) beach to specifically target the golden greys. They were fishing what I would describe as a surf beach, as far as I can remember :?

I dont know much about the species, so wouldnt know if this was the norm, but boy did they catch some fish.
